Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Alright, let's begin. This class of ship has variable geometry warp nacelles.

Answer: Intrepid

The Intrepid class has variable geometry warp nacelles that allow it to travel at very high velocities. Its maximum velocity is warp 9.975, making it one of the fastest starships in the fleet.
2. USS Stargazer NCC-2893

Answer: Constellation

The Constellation class is a very old design commissioned in about 2280. Although most of them were decomissioned by the time of "The Next Generation", I guess Starfleet still insisted in using them in combat, as we see in such episodes as "Redemtion". I would not like to have to captain one of those against a Warbird!
3. This class has a shperical shaped hull, and had LONG been decommissioned.

Answer: Daedalus

The Daedalus class was commonly used in the early days of Starfleet. Unlike most starships to follow, the Daedalus had a spherical main hull. The only starfleet other ship mentioned or seen in the "Star Trek" series with a spherical main hull is Dr. Crusher's medical ship the Pasteur, of the Olympic class. The old Daedalus class ships were retired by 2196.
4. This ship has one Galaxy-type warp nacelle.

Answer: Freedom

This is the only Starfleet ship known by now to have one warp nacelle. This ship can be seen in the starship "graveyard" in the "TNG" episode "Best of Both Worlds".
5. USS Rio Grande NCC-72452

Answer: Danube

The Danube class ships are small and commonly named runabouts. They can transport personnel over longer distances than shuttlecraft. They can also perform a variety of other missions. The ships were introduced in 2368, and are usually named after rivers on Earth.
6. USS Centaur NCC-42043

Answer: Centaur

The Centaur was seen in the "DS9" episode "A Time to Stand". The Centaur class is essentially a rearrangement of Excelsior class components such as the warp nacelles and saucer hull.
7. USS Jenolan NCC-2010

Answer: Sydney

The Jenolan is the ship on which Captain Montgomery Scott was found in the "TNG" episode "Relics". It is of the Sydney class, which is designed as a large personnel transport. The ships are sometimes mistaken for runabouts or shuttles when indeed they are much larger, comprising of several decks.
8. USS Bozeman NCC-1941

Answer: Soyuz

The Soyuz is similar to the Miranda class. The main difference is additional sensor pods attached to the top and bottom of the stern and the port and starboard edge of the ship. The Soyuz was retired at the end of the 23rd century.
9. USS Grissom NCC-638

Answer: Oberth

The Oberth class is a really common science vessel used not only by Starfleet but also many Federation organizations. Although it is as old as the Excelsior many Oberth class ships are still in service.
10. This ship is a prototype vessel designed for multi-vector assault mode.

Answer: Prometheus

The Prometheus is an experimental deep-space tactical vessel. Its multi-vector assault mode splits the ship into three sections during combat. Each section is equipped with warp nacelles and heavy armament. The sections are essentially the top and bottom halves of the engineering section with two standard warp nacelles each, and the saucer hull which also has two small nacelles.
