Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After materializing in what appears to be a graveyard for spaceships, the TARDIS travelers wake up from an odd sort of stasis to find themselves dressed in different clothes than they remember wearing. While puzzling over that, which crew member drops and smashes a glass of water, only to have it jump back up into their hand, unbroken?

Answer: Vicki

In spite of the inexplicable occurrences at the beginning of the first episode of the serial (entitled "The Space Museum"), the Doctor brushes them off as unimportant. He dismisses the different clothes as "time and relativity", and the broken and magically reformed glass of water as something that should be explained by exploring the planet.

The Doctor (William Hartnell) is joined by his companions, who are:

Ian Chesterton - played by William Russell;
Barbara Wright - played by Jacqueline Hill; and
Vicki - played by Maureen O'Brien.
2. The Doctor and his companions venture out of the TARDIS to explore their surroundings, which they surmise to be a museum. What oddity do they NOT experience while doing so?

Answer: The TARDIS flies away without them.

At first the travelers take pains to avoid being seen by the people moving about the museum, but it soon becomes apparent that no one can see or hear them. And while the four of them are able to SEE the people of the planet, they also cannot hear their conversations.

When they come across a display of the TARDIS and themselves encased in glass boxes, the Doctor finally realizes what must have happened. He explains that they have skipped a time track, and are doubling over a future that may happen. Presently, the display vanishes before their eyes, and they are now actually physically there, able to be seen and heard.
3. As the second episode ("The Dimensions of Time") opens, we are introduced to the administrators of the museum and the planet Xeros, a race called the Moroks. Who is the planet's governor (and curator of the museum)?

Answer: Lobos

Lobos (played by Richard Shaw) is presented as a disillusioned bureaucrat, tired of his position and pining for the lost glory days of the Morok Empire. With the arrival of the TARDIS, he suddenly has something to be concerned about. Footprints outside of the ship show that there are at least three people roaming the museum, and he orders the ship to be secured and the travelers located.

Of most concern to Lobos is the potential that these new arrivals might exacerbate the rebellious tendencies of the youth of the subjugated planet's native people - the Xerons.
4. The four time travelers, having experienced a slipped time track that revealed their possible future, try to find their way back to the TARDIS, but become hopelessly lost. Which of the four becomes separated from the others and captured?

Answer: The Doctor

Three young Xerons, learning of the presence of the newcomers, decide to try to get their help in their fight against the Moroks. Unfortunately, they decide that the best way to do this is to capture one of the four and convince that one to help, rather than approach all four at once. The fact that Ian is carrying a weapon (procured from a display case) makes them exercise caution.

When the Doctor falls behind his companions, distracted by an artifact, the young men grab him and drag him away.

The three Xerons (Sita, Dako and Tor) were played by Peter Sanders, Peter Craze, and Jeremy Bulloch, respectively.
5. The separated member of the team manages to escape their predicament and hides inside what museum display?

Answer: A Dalek shell

When nabbed by the Xerons, the Doctor feigns unconsciousness. Believing he has fainted, two of the Xerons leave to find something to rouse him. When they return, they find their friend bound and gagged and the Doctor gone. They quickly rush off to try to find the other three travelers, and the camera pans over to the Dalek shell that was seen on display earlier (in the first episode). Grinning mischievously, we see the Doctor pop his head out, lifting up the top of the Dalek shell.

Moments later, the Doctor is recaptured in the halls by some Molok guardsmen.
6. In "The Search" (episode three), an encounter with Morok soldiers scatters the time travelers into different directions. Which one ends up getting locked in a store room?

Answer: Barbara

Barbara, Ian and Vicki find the TARDIS outside the main door of the museum and eavesdrop on the report the soldiers give to Lobos regarding the status of the search for the 'aliens'. They learn that the Doctor has been brought to the 'preparation room' just as another soldier happens upon them.

Ian attempts to talk his way out of their predicament, but it soon falls to an attempt to overpower the soldier. The men outside hear the noise and the three travelers all go in different directions in their attempt to escape capture. Ian fights off a couple of soldiers and runs outside, Barbara hides in a store room (subsequently getting locked in), and Vicki gets captured by the young rebel Xerons.

Soon after, Dako goes in search of Barbara, and finds her in the store room. Before they can get back to the Xeron hideout, they are rendered unconscious by zaphra gas (used by the Moroks to paralyze their enemies).
7. What security device is preventing the Xeron revolutionaries from accessing the Morok armoury?

Answer: A telekinetic lock

In their discussion with Vicki, the Xeron rebels state that the security measures protecting the armoury are impenetrable. The device asks questions that must be answered truthfully in order to gain access, including name, rank, who authorized access, and the requisition number on the authorization paperwork.

After disabling the one guard, Vicki opens the panel on the device and fiddles around a bit. She manages to change the programming so that the device will accept ANY truthful answers, and not just the expected ones. This time when she approaches the armoury door there are only two questions: 'What is your name?' (Vicki) and 'For what purpose are the arms needed?' (Revolution).
8. At the beginning of "The Final Phase", Ian rescues the Doctor from being turned into a display statue in the Preparation Room, forcing the governor to reverse the process at gunpoint. Once 'thawed', what malady does the Doctor complain about, that always bothers him when he's cold?

Answer: Rheumatism

As Ian pulls him from the alteration device, the Doctor finds it difficult to move and needs help to even sit down. The Doctor makes note of the fact that, even though he was essentially 'frozen stiff', he was still aware of everything going on around him, and that his mind was working faster than ever.
9. As Ian and the Doctor discuss their next move, more soldiers arrive and disarm Ian. Another soldier arrives with Barbara and Vicki, who have also been captured. All four of them are locked in the Preparation Room as the governor decides their fate. Before he can carry out any action, the Xerons show up and a battle ensues. The governor is the only Morok who survives the assault.

Answer: False

The battle between the Xerons and the Moroks is ruthless. When Barbara and Vicki find each other by the TARDIS, a Morok soldier shows up and shoots the Xerons with them, killing one of them (Sita).

When Tor and the rest of the Xerons get to the Preparation Room, they kill all of the Moroks there, including Lobos.
10. With their revolution a success, the Xerons are quick to begin dismantling the museum, which was a monument to the Morok Empire. The Doctor, however, keeps one item for himself. What?

Answer: A Time-Space Visualiser

At the moment, no explanation is given as to what, exactly, a Time-Space Visualiser is or does, but it allows someone to view any historical event on a screen. It is used in the next serial ("The Chase"), but is not seen again, except in two novels, a comic book, and a game.
