Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Scarecrow"- The episode opens to an event that occurred "one year ago". What town did this event, and most of the episode, take place within?

Answer: Burkitsville, Indiana

The small community was able to prosper long after many neighboring communities had died off. They were famous for their apples, and apple products.
2. "Scarecrow"- What is the name of the couple seen being attacked by the "scarecrow" in the opening scenes?

Answer: Holly and Vince Parker

Holly and Vince had stopped in Burkitsville for gas, and were welcomed in by the locals. They were sent off, at sunset, with an apple pie and a smile. Their car died just next to the apple orchard, so they tried to walk through it to find help. Instead, the scarecrow came to life and attacked them.

The scarecrow, which was really a Pagan entity called a vanir, looked eerily like the creeper from "Jeepers Creepers".
3. "Scarecrow"- John Winchester finally called his sons. He warned them to stay away from him, and sent them to destroy this scarecrow creature.

Answer: True

He tried to give Sam the names of three couples, Holly and Vince Parker among them, but Sam just wanted to know where he was. Dean took the phone, and the names, and they headed toward Burkitsville. Sam abandoned his father's advice to stay away, while Dean knew it was the right thing to do. Dean headed to town, while Sam walked to a bus station. Sam met a mysterious female hitchhiker along the way, but she ditched him for a ride. Later, they hooked back up in the bus station and she also claimed to be on her way to California.

In reality, she turned out to be an instrument of evil, and John's warning that evil was watching all the time turned out to be very true.
4. "Scarecrow"- How did Dean introduce himself to Scotty, of Scotty's Cafe?

Answer: John Bonham

Scotty wasn't fooled. He replied to Dean, "Isn't that the drummer for Led Zeppelin?"
5. "Scarecrow"- What was the name of the niece that the townsfolk decided to sacrifice alongside Dean?

Answer: Emily

The vanir needed to be feed a couple the second week of every April. Emily was offered up after Dean saved the couple the town had picked out. They tied up Emily and Dean inside the orchard and waited for darkness to fall. Thankfully, Sam reconsidered his California trip when Dean stopped answering his phone.

He showed up in time to free them both, but the townsfolk held them all at gunpoint. The vanir came out and took Emily's aunt and uncle instead. I guess it needed a real married couple after all. Emily showed the Winchester boys the sacred tree that was linked to the Pagan wood spirit, and they burned it down.

This set the curse free, but the town and people would all die off slowly. Emily said she was glad.
6. "Faith"- Dean experienced a massive heart attack in the opening scenes.

Answer: True

Sam and Dean found some children hiding inside a cupboard in the basement of an old house. Dean used a taser (stun) gun to kill the creature that stalked the children, but it was standing in water and Dean was lying in it. The electricity caused Dean to have a massive heart attack that would be fatal. The doctor gave Dean about two weeks to live on his badly damaged heart.
The creature in the basement looked somewhat like Der Kindestod from season two of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", which was also a child killer.
7. "Faith"- What was the name of the faith healer Sam took Dean to see?

Answer: Roy

Reverend Roy Le Grange developed his ability to heal after a miracle of his own, or so he thought. Roy had gone blind from a cancerous tumor. He was given one month to live, fell into a coma, and then suddenly woke up. He was cured of his cancer, but still blind.

In truth, his wife Sue Ann used black magic to bind a reaper to her. She was able to make the reaper take the life of people she felt were amoral, to save the innocent sick and dying.
8. "Faith"- Julie Benz portrayed the lady with an inoperable brain tumor. What was her name?

Answer: Layla Rohr

Layla had about six months to live. She and her mother had come to see Roy many times, but he'd never chosen to save her. Julie played Darla on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and its spin-off "Angel". Darla was the mother of Angel's son Connor. Cordelia was also a character on both shows, but Jill Valentine was a character from the "Resident Evil" video game series.
9. "Faith"- Every time someone was healed by the reverend, some other person died in their place.

Answer: True

When Dean was healed, a 27 year old man dropped dead of a massive heart attack. He was healthy and athletic. Dean began to feel very guilty, not only that a man died in his place, but that Layla would not be able to be healed.
10. "Faith"- How was Sam able to stop the reaper from killing Dean?

Answer: breaking the Coptic cross

He grabbed the necklace off of Sue Ann's neck and broke it. Blood came out of the cross and the binding spell was lifted. The reaper left Dean, but did kill Sue Ann in his place.
