Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Bugs"- Sam and Dean are brought to Oasis Plains, Oklahoma when a man working for the gas company falls into a sink hole. Upon investigation into the hole, Sam brings out a sample of which type of bug?

Answer: beetle

The man died very quickly when his head openings (ears, nose) were violated by a swarm of beetles. Dean offered to go down into the sink hole if Sam was afraid, but Sam skipped the coin toss and went down anyway. Later, the brothers report that the man had been diagnosed with 'human mad cow disease', formally known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. We see instances of beetles, roaches and bee swarms during the episode.
2. "Bugs"- How did Sam and Dean introduced themselves to Travis Weaver, who was also working with the dead gas man?

Answer: nephews of Uncle Dusty

Dustin was the poor gas company man who'd been killed by the beetles. When the brothers arrived in Oasis, they interviewed Travis Weaver because he'd been at the work site when it all happened. They explained they were nephews of 'Uncle Dusty' and that Dusty had spoke very highly of Travis. This seemed to please Travis, thus making it easier to obtain details from him.
3. "Bugs"- What was the cause of all of the bug related deaths in Oasis?

Answer: Native American curse

The legend was that the local natives had refused to be 'relocated' by the American government some 170 years earlier. The brothers spoke with local Joe White Tree to gather the details. After their refusal to move, these native peoples were slaughtered over a six day period and their leader cursed the land before he died.

The legend had it that for six days starting each March, anyone encroaching on the land would suffer death at the hands of Mother Nature. The deaths would culminate on the Spring Equinox and no one would survive the final swarm. Dean and Sam joined the land developer's family inside their home to fend off the massive bee swarm.

They knew if they could survive until sunrise, the swarm would disappear. They did make it, but surprisingly none of them seemed to be stung and as sick as they should have been.
4. "Home"- In this episode, Sam and Dean return to the scene of their mother's death. Where did she die?

Answer: Lawrence, Kansas

Their mother, Mary Winchester, was killed by some mysterious force inside their home in 1983. Sam was just a baby in his crib when he witnessed his mother burning on the nursery ceiling. The series opens with the same thing happening to Sam's girlfriend Jessica. Samantha Smith played Mary Winchester. She also had some small roles in "Jerry Maguire" and "Dragonfly".
5. "Home"- How did Dean describe Sam's psychic abilities?

Answer: the shining

Sam finally confessed to Dean that his dreams had come true in the past. He explained that he'd dreamed of Jessica's death, just the way it happened, for days prior to the event. Now, Sam was dreaming about a new family in their old house in Kansas, and he was sure they had to go there and provide protection. To 'shine', paranormally speaking, it to be able to see the future and/or communicate telepathically. Stephen King wrote a successful novel called "The Shining", which had two movies made based on it. One movie was the 1980 Stanley Kubrick adaptation, and the other was the 1997 TV mini-series written by King himself.
6. "Home"- What was the name of the female psychic that Sam and Dean visited while back in their home town?

Answer: Missouri Mosley

Loretta Devine played Missouri, the psychic that John Winchester had consulted years before after the death of his wife. Dean read in John's journal that John had "gone to Missouri and learned the truth". Dean told Sam he'd always assumed it was the state, until Sam read her name out of the phone book.
7. "Home"- The lady psychic reported to the brothers that their old home was not inhabited by the force that had killed their mother. How did she describe this new paranormal power?

Answer: poltergeist

She told Sam that the energy she felt now was different, and that there were two energies. Missouri couldn't identify the less present energy. She and the two men battled the 'nasty poltergeist" while Jennifer and her two children were out of the house.

She believed that they'd expelled the energy, but Sam could still sense it and wouldn't let Dean leave the house. The other energy inside the house turned out to be the protective spirit of their mother Mary.
8. "Home"- Where did Jennifer's little son become trapped by the malevolent force inside the old Winchester home?

Answer: refrigerator

Jennifer and her children lived alone in the house. Jennifer's husband was not with her any longer and they'd all just moved to Lawrence from Wichita. She had locks on the refrigerator too, as her son was about two or three years old and loved juice. But, the nasty poltergeist unlocked the appliance, allowing the young boy to see his juice cup inside.

He crawled into the open fridge and the spirit locked him inside. Thankfully, he wasn't trapped long before his mother rescued him.
9. "Home"- Did Dean compare the psychic lady to Zelda Rubenstein?

Answer: Yes

Zelda Rubenstein played the medium Tangina in the 1982 thriller "Poltergeist". So, Dean's comparative description was right on the money. Missouri even claimed the house to be "clean", as Tangina did after rescuing Carol Ann from the spirit plane. Dean said this to Sam while they waited outside of the house, after Jennifer had returned home. Sam could still sense the energy, showing that his ability was growing stronger.
10. "Home"- John Winchester was in town at the same time as his sons.

Answer: True

The series started off with Dean imploring Sam to help him hunt for their missing father. They seemed to be one step behind him for awhile and then come to the conclusion he could be anywhere. For some reason, John was not able to rejoin his children in the hunt for evil.

At the end of this episode, we see that John is at Missouri's house in Lawrence. She tells John she's surprised that a powerful man like Sam did not sense his own father in her home when they'd visited. He tells her he is not ready to see his sons until he learns the truth. I think he may suspect that Sam is the reason for his mother's death. I have suspected this myself, as the death of both women only have Sam in common. Sam is proving to be a powerful person, and he could have had the powers back when he was a baby as well.
