Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many returning castaways joined "Survivor: Blood vs. Water"?

Answer: Ten

While numerous seasons in the past have brought players back to compete once again, this was the first time the show brought back noteworthy contestants only to pit them against their loved ones. After a first night in the jungle, the ten pairs of castaways united on a beach and Jeff split them into two tribes; the returning players became Galang and donned orange buffs while the loved ones took red buffs to become Tadhana.
2. Redemption Island returned in this season. Who was the only person who opted to go to Redemption Island in place of their loved one?

Answer: Rupert

As soon as the tribes were divided out, the castaways were told that one member of each would be voted out without a Tribal Council, right then and there. The returning castaways on Galang immediately voted out Candice while the new players voted out Laura B., Rupert's wife.

This being said, both were to be sent to Redemption Island where either could potentially win their way back into the game. However, their loved ones could choose to take the voted-out player's place. And thus, Rupert went to Redemption Island instead of Laura and she took his place on Galang.

The rule to swap places would return for each duel (and loved ones could take the place of their relatives there). Ultimately, Rupert was eliminated at the very first duel and no one else took the swap from that point on.
3. Which castaway quit the season on Day 7?

Answer: Colton

Colton started losing his mind and patience on Day 4. Although he wanted to shed the image he made for himself during "Survivor: One World", he didn't want to keep going after several days of attempting to strong-arm his tribe into strategic talks and chaotic dealings.

When both tribes attended the Redemption Island duel on Day 7, he broke down, claimed he didn't want to stay, embraced Caleb, and left. Jeff commented that his removal from the game in "One World" was believed to be appendicitis, but further examination proved this not to be the case.

It meant he quit two separate seasons of the show, being the first to do so.
4. On Day 14, castaways dropped their buffs to shuffle the tribes. They did so by drawing which of these?

Answer: Sealed buffs

Immediately following the Redemption Island duel on Day 14, Jeff had the castaways drop their buffs, allowing them to draw new ones at random from sealed containers. The dust settled and Tyson, Gervase, and Aras were both sent to Tadhana while Vytas and Katie were flipped to Galang.

Interestingly, this meant that Ciera was the only female castaway left on Tadhana and that Vytas had become the only male castaway in Galang. Additionally, because Katie switched onto Galang with Tina, it was the first instance in which familial castaways were able to participate on the same tribe.

This would only remain as the sole reunion until the merge when Vytas and Aras shared the tribe as well.
5. Who was the first person to return from Redemption Island?

Answer: Laura M.

Laura M., the first person officially eliminated from Galang, arrived on Redemption Island on Day 13 to face off against Candice's husband, John, and Monica's husband, Brad, both eliminated in the previous two Tribals (though on the Tadhana tribe). She ultimately needed to win three Redemption Island duels to retake her spot in the game, doing so on Day 19 and rejoining all of the castaways left in the game in time for the merge.
6. This season's merged tribe went by which name?

Answer: Kasama

After the Day 19 Redemption Island duel, the winner (Laura M.) was returned to the game and all buffs were dropped. Thus, the eleven castaways still in the game united as a single tribe with purple buffs. Although the castaways started the game with ten pairs of players, only three survived to the merge-- Aras and Vytas, Tina and Katie, and Laura M. and Ciera. Two full pairs were eliminated at this point-- Rupert and Laura B. and Candice and John.

The name Kasama is the filipino word for 'Included'.
7. Day 32 saw the first 'drawing of rocks' in more than twenty seasons. Who drew the white rock and was eliminated from the game?

Answer: Katie

The final six went to Tribal Council in one of the rarer occurrences in "Survivor". While Gervase had immunity, the votes were otherwise split between Hayden and Monica with both sides not budging. A tie vote led to a revote and when that, too, was tied, it led to the infamous drawing of the rocks. Because no one could come to a consensus, Hayden and Monica were exempt from drawing rocks, and because Gervase was immune, he had no need to draw.

As such, Tyson, Ciera, and Katie were the only ones to participate.

When they revealed their rocks, Katie was the one to draw the white rock. She went to Redemption Island as a result...only to be sent to the jury by her mother.
8. Who was the second castaway to return from Redemption Island (doing so on Day 36)?

Answer: Tina

After spending twelve days on Redemption Island and seeing six of her fellow castaways go to the jury (including her own daughter), Tina was brought back into the game as one of the final five contestants in the running for the million dollars. She partnered with Ciera to hunt for the (already-found) Hidden Immunity Idol, but neither of them were able to turn it out in the end.

She ultimately joined Tyson, Monica, and Gervase in the final four for this season, eliminating Ciera on Day 37 as the final loved one in the game.
9. The only Hidden Immunity Idol successfully used during this season was used to negate votes cast against which castaway?

Answer: Gervase

Immediately after the tribal merge on Day 19, Tyson went looking for the Hidden Immunity Idol with a meagre amount of clues given to him absentmindedly by Hayden. Most castaways who received idol clues chose to burn them, fearing them to be too big of a target. Ultimately, the Hidden Immunity Idol was used on Day 29 (as a security measure) and it was only used near the end of the game on Day 37-- the last possible opportunity-- to negate votes when Tyson negated two of Gervase's votes (and he had his own Immunity Necklace).

It didn't matter; Ciera had three votes against her anyways.
10. Who was the Sole Survivor of "Survivor: Blood vs. Water"?

Answer: Tyson

Tyson was ultimately praised for his strong game this season, and by the time he made it to the final three with fellow returnees Gervase and Monica, he seemed to lock down the majority of the votes (even Gervase and Monica, when asked by Aras during the final Tribal Council, would have given him their votes).

When the votes were read, Tyson received seven of the eight jury votes while Monica received one and, on his third outing, he was crowned Sole Survivor and winner of the $1,000,000 prize.
