Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Within 6 months of "Father Knows Best" ending, Elinor Donahue (aka Princess), began a 12-episode run as Ellie Walker on "The Andy Griffith Show." What did Ellie do for a living?

Answer: pharmacist

Ellie Walker was to be Andy's steady girlfriend on the show... but suddenly disappeared with no explanation after her twelfth appearance. Ms. Donahue's explanation was that she was having "personal problems" and asked to be released from her contract. After a quiet 1962, she was back on TV and appeared on dozens of shows such as "The Odd Couple", "Many Happy Returns" and many more.
2. After his role as Texas Ranger Hobie Gilman on "Trackdown" ended, Robert Culp eventually was teamed with Bill Cosby as costar of "I Spy." Over a decade after THAT ended he costarred as an F.B.I. agent on what show?

Answer: The Greatest American Hero

Though never reaching "superstar" status, Culp was a busy fellow. "The Greatest American Hero" was just a part of his resume. Culp also appeared in over 30 made-for-television movies, theatrical films, and appearances in dozens of television shows. His last performances of note would be appearing in 11 episodes of "Everybody Loves Raymond."
3. When not giving away money John Beresford Tipton, aka "The Millionaire", was enjoying life on his 60,000 acre estate. What was the name of his home?

Answer: Silverstone

Because Tipton's face was never shown, and his name (without an actor's credit) was included in the cast, some people believed that there was such a person. The $207,000,000 given out during the run of the show would be worth approximately $1.7 billion in 2017 dollars.
4. Westerns were falling out of favor and "Wagon Train" ended its eight year run in 1965. Ward Bond, who played original wagon master Seth Adams, wasn't concerned. Why not?

Answer: he died during the fourth season

Though Bond's greatest fame came about with "Wagon Train" he had already appeared in 100's of movies and a scattering of TV shows. Along with dozens of "B" movies he appeared (however briefly) in such film classics as "Gone With the Wind", "The Grapes of Wrath", "It's A Wonderful Life" and "Mr. Roberts".
5. For years Bill Cosby was one of the most beloved entertainers in America. His first foray into series television was as costar of the hit show "I Spy." It wasn't his last. A year after "I Spy" ended Bill headlined his next series. Title sounds familiar... what was it?

Answer: The Bill Cosby Show

A year after "I Spy" ended Bill played high school gym teacher Chet Kincaid on the award winning series. All four are actual Bill Cosby shows.
6. It wasn't a reality show but rather a reenactment show. Every Sunday "You Are There" would reenact an event in history while reporters interview some of the participants (in character) as it was taking place. Who hosted and narrated that show?

Answer: Walter Cronkite

The show, which started in 1953 ran just a bit over 4 years. The first episode involved the Hindenberg disaster of 1937. William "Moose" Skowron was a first baseman for the New York Yankees for nine years.
7. When Jackie Gleason's CBS game show "You're In the Picture" ended, what did he do next?

Answer: apologized to the viewing audience

Believe me... the show was terrible. It was scrapped after one episode. The following Friday night Jackie just came out, sat down, and apologized for having put on such an awful program. He spent the next half hour chatting to the folks watching at home. Quickly renamed "The Jackie Gleason Show" it was turned into a talk show which lasted for about two months.
8. For the four year run of "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis," Zelda Gilroy (as played by Sheila James) was out to land Dobie. In spite of her best efforts, and propinquity, she never got him. In 1963, within months of the show ending, Sheila was costarring on another series (with Kathy Nolan). What series was it?

Answer: Broadside

"Broadside" was meant to be a female version of "McHale's Navy." It ran for 32 episodes. During the run of "Dobie Gillis" Sheila did a pilot called "Zelda" but it never went anywhere.
9. Chuck Connors will always be remembered as Lucas McCain... aka "The Rifleman." The five year run in the popular series made him a star. When it ended in 1963 Chuck quickly found another series... in fact he starred in THREE series in the next three years. Which one DIDN'T he star in?

Answer: Sugarfoot

All the series were well regarded but none lasted long. "Arrest and Trial" and "Cowboy In Africa" were around for just one season and "Branded" just one full season (after a 16-episode first season). Chuck is in the Cowboy Hall of Fame alongside Hopalong Cassidy and Clayton Moore.
10. There were several "pilots" made before "All In The Family" finally reached our TV sets in 1970. What was the name used for the first one?

Answer: Justice For All

In the initial 1968 pilot (for ABC) Carroll O'Connor played Archie Justice. A second pilot (this time titled "Those Were the Days") was filmed in 1969, also for ABC. The third pilot (for CBS) did the trick and the pilot was used as the first episode.
