Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What main character did not appear in this episode?

Answer: Caleb (Alan Dale)

Caleb Nichol, Kirsten's father and Julie's husband, did not appear in that episode of "The O.C." Alan Dale first made an appearance on "The O.C." in the season one episode, "The Girlfriend" as a guest. At the beginning of the second season, he was added to the opening sequence and became a regular cast member.
2. This episode marked the final appearance of which character, who had a recurring guest role through much of the second season?

Answer: Alex Kelly (Olivia Wilde)

Olivia Wilde first appeared on "The O.C." as Alex Kelly, a manager and bartender at The Bait Shop where Seth applied for a part-time job. After a brief fling with Seth, Alex moved on to a short but steamy relationship with Marissa, causing quite a stir with their first lesbian kiss on "The O.C." Olivia Wilde's first appearance was in the episode "The New Era" and with this final episode; Wilde left "The O.C." with thirteen guest appearances on the show.
3. Summer wanted Marissa and Ryan to try again with a relationship.

Answer: False

Seth was enthusiastic about the possibility of Ryan and Marissa reuniting, since Lindsay and Alex (their girlfriends, respectively) had left town. One of his plots was telling Marissa to ask Ryan to help with the school's bonfire. Summer was opposed to this idea, saying that separate, Marissa and Ryan were each great people that she loved but together, they were disastrous.
4. In the first scene with Kirsten and Sandy, what are they doing?

Answer: playing golf

Kirsten and Sandy are playing golf in their first scene. Kirsten wasn't very good and was getting annoyed with Sandy when he kept trying to give her pointers. In the scene, Kirsten finally brought up Carter Buckley to Sandy and told him about the magazine Carter published in the past. Sandy was a huge fan of the magazine and would like to meet him.
5. When Seth approaches Marissa to plant the idea of Ryan helping with the bon-fire, what name does Seth call her that she claims only Summer uses?

Answer: Coop

When Marissa was at her locker, Seth walked up, acting nonchalant until Marissa complained about not having anything to burn for the bonfire. Seth then suggested Ryan for the job, in his attempt to put Ryan back on Marissa's radar and hopefully have them end up together.

In this conversation, Seth called Marissa by the nickname of "Coop," which Summer frequently used. When Marissa pointed this out to Seth, he argued that since he and Summer were back together and Summer used the name, then he could since "if A equals B and B equals C then A equals C."
6. Julie visited Sandy to ask for his help with her "erotic video" situation and when he can't think of anything to say, which is not an excuse she used for making the adult film?

Answer: I was drugged.

In a very comic scene, Julie stopped by Sandy's office and tossed the tape on Sandy's desk. He claimed he was totally speechless and she explained that, "It was the '80s. I was young. I had no money. And it was the '80s." Her main concern in the situation is that she didn't want Marissa to find out about her mother's past.
7. What does Ryan borrow from Seth to use as his inspiration for the bonfire design?

Answer: Captain Oats

Seth was sitting at home with Captain Oats, watching "The Valley" when Ryan came in, complaining that he couldn't come up with a good design for the bonfire. After a brief discussion with Sandy, Ryan spotted Captain Oats and asked Seth to borrow him. Seth handed the plastic horse over to Ryan but only after warning the toy to be let his owner know if Ryan tried anything funny. Ryan punched Seth in the arm and left.
8. Who stopped by Seth's room while he was trying on clothes to ask his advice about Marissa?

Answer: Alex

Seth was in his room, trying on clothes from the past year (which he constantly referred to in this episode in a meta attempt by the writers/producers to show that they recognize that the 2nd season is not as good as the 1st season.) Alex walked in and told Seth that she was falling hard for Marissa and just wanted to know if she had a chance or if she was fighting a losing battle.

When Seth asked if this was about the mall situation, Alex blew it off, claiming she knew all about that. Seth then let it slip that Marissa and Ryan slept in a tent together (though they really didn't since they were chased out before they actually went to sleep), which was something Marissa hadn't told Alex.
9. In another advice-seeking visit, who stopped by Ryan's bedroom/pool house to get advice about (who else?) Marissa?

Answer: Julie

Julie complained to Sandy that Marissa won't listen to her and refused to come home. Sandy offered the advice that sometimes the message isn't the problem; it's the messenger. This prompted Julie to visit Ryan since Marissa had always listened to Ryan. Julie gave him a quick summary of Marissa's behavior but Ryan jumped in to say he wouldn't get in the middle of Marissa's life, especially her relationship with Alex. Julie claimed it had nothing to do with Alex but with her entire life in general.
10. Who lights the bonfire?

Answer: Marissa and Ryan

After Alex showed up with two of her guy friends to fight Ryan, Marissa and Alex talk about what is wrong in their relationship and Alex decided that she didn't fit in with Marissa's world. So they hugged goodbye, Alex apologized to Ryan for trying to fight him and she left. Ryan and Marissa joined the students by the fire and decided that since it was joint effort thus far, they would also light the fire together.
