Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The debut episode of "The Jetsons", "Rosey the Robot" (aired September 23, 1962), helped to set the tone for the show. After inviting himself over for a home-cooked meal, George Jetson's boss, Mr. Spacely, takes the cake. What kind of cake does Rosey hit him with while defending her new family?

Answer: Pineapple upside-down cake

Even though they supposedly live in the future, the Jetsons represent the typical American nuclear family. Husband George (voiced by George O'Hanlon) works as a referential universal digital index operator at Spacely Space Sprockets for the tight-fisted Cosmo Spacely (voiced by Mel Blanc). Homemaker Jane (Penny Singleton) dotes over their teen-aged, boy-crazy daughter Judy (Janet Waldo) and their scientifically-inclined pre-teen son Elroy (Daws Butler). The family pet, Astro (Don Messick), adds even more levity to the proceedings.

For the Jetsons, Rosey (Jean Vander Pyl) is a luxury George is convinced they can't afford. Her presence, in fact, makes George anxious when Spacely invites himself over for a home-cooked meal. Rosey becomes so frustrated by Spacely's belittling remarks that she hits him with dessert. Spacely storms off, but later calls back to tell George that he can have a raise so he can keep Rosey. But when George tells him Rosey has left, Spacely yells at him to go get her. George finds her at a space bus stop and takes her back.
2. In the episode "A Date With Jet Screamer" (aired September 30, 1962), George's attempt to sabotage his daughter Judy's efforts to win a songwriting contest backfires when Elroy's secret code message gets her the victory. The code, "Eep, Opp, Ork, Ah-ah!", was originally used to relay what message?

Answer: "Meet me tonight."

Actor Howard Morris, best known for playing the nutty Ernest T. Bass on the hit sitcom "The Andy Griffith Show" in the 1960s, provides the voice for Jet Screamer as he sang Judy's song to the world. Morris was also the original voice of another Hanna-Barbera character, Atom Ant, and the voice of Mr. Peebles in the cartoon "Magilla Gorilla".

Judy's date involves stopping at a space drive-in for dinner, having fun at an amusement park, and going to a club where Jet Screamer performs. To keep an eye on Judy, Jetson pays Jet's drummer, Boom-Boom Basil, to take the night off. When Jet discovers Jetson at the drum set, he asks him to kick the song off with a drum solo. Not only does Judy have a great time, but her dad becomes president of the Jet Screamer Fan Club.
3. In the episode "The Coming of Astro" (aired October 21, 1962), the Jetsons welcome a dog to the family. That is, everyone except George, who believes that an apartment is no place for a dog. To try and please everyone, George picks up a nuclear-powered pooch for companionship and protection. What is the dog's name?

Answer: Lectronimo

George isn't a big dog lover. In fact, he believes that an apartment is no place for a dog. But to try and keep everyone happy, he gets a nuclear-powered dog that will be much easier to maintain. Eventually, the family holds a contest to determine which dog should stay. Lectronimo wins in a clean sweep, but goes beserk when trying to capture a cat burglar later that night. Astro catches the burglar after Elroy wakes him up.

He stays with the family, and Lectronimo winds up with the local police department.
4. In the episode "Rosey's New Boyfriend" (aired November 11, 1962), Rosey the Robot makes her second and final appearance during the first season. She falls in love with the robot helper created by building superintendent Henry Orbit and becomes depressed when Henry deactivates him. What name does Henry give his robot?

Answer: Mac

Though robots aren't supposed to be programmed with emotions, Rosey certainly has hers. In this episode, she falls for Mac, Henry's new home-built robot helper. Rosey becomes despondent when Henry, frustrated with Mac's mistakes, deactivates him, causing her to act erratically whenever she receives a command. Elroy figures out that Rosey misses Mac and after turning him back on, uses the video phone to connect the two robots.

The two robots are eventually allowed to talk to each other for five minutes at the start of every day.
5. In the episode "Uniblab" (aired November 25, 1962), George Jetson gets a shock when the office supervisor job he's been aiming for is given to a robot. But Henry Orbit helps Jetson get the last laugh. What does Henry do to get Uniblab thrown off the job?

Answer: Spikes his lubricant with alcohol

A giant robot that offers everything from stock quotes to slot machines, Uniblab is Mr. Spacely's answer to the need for an office supervisor. Not only does Uniblab get the job that Jetson has his eye on, he also gets Jetson fired by replaying a tape of Jetson talking badly about Spacely.

Henry, who hears about the situation, spikes Uniblab's lubricant, appropriately called Unilube, before the robot is called into a meeting with the Spacely Sprockets board of directors. The robot malfunctions during the meeting, forcing Spacely to throw it out and name Jetson office supervisor.
6. In the episode "A Visit From Grandpa" (aired December 2, 1962), the Jetsons get a visit from George's energetic grandfather, who causes some problems that, thankfully, get straightened out in time. What is George's grandfather's first name?

Answer: Montague

Montague Jetson is a 110-year-old man whose charm and enthusiasm has a positive effect on everyone - except for a young policeman who keeps trying to get the old man to drive more slowly in his single-seat sports car. But that energy ends up creating some problems when his actions confuse the family.

When he tries to get a dog license for Astro, Jane and Judy think he's getting a marriage license. To compound the problem, he brings home the baby of a woman who is going off on her second honeymoon.

The cops show up after the woman tells them that she and he husband changed their minds and wanted to bring the baby with them. As he heads out of town, the police officer warns all units to let Montague go, if they know what's good for them.
7. In the episode "Millionaire Astro" (aired January 6, 1963), the Jetsons' family dog, Astro, is successfully reclaimed by rich businessman J.P. Gottrockets. Gottrockets then proceeds to call Astro by what name?

Answer: Tralfaz

The wealthy Gottrockets and his attorney, Withers, go to court to reclaim custody of the Jetsons' beloved pet, which Elroy brought home in the episode "The Coming of Astro". Gottrockets wins his case by proving Astro's pedigree and begins referring to the dog by his original name, Tralfaz. Though Astro has everything he could ever want at paw's length, he longs to be back with the Jetsons in their more humble surroundings. Eventually, Gottrockets has Withers draw up the paperwork to give the dog to the Jetsons for good.
8. In the episode "G.I. Jetson" (aired January 27, 1963), George Jetson and Henry Orbit find themselves again in the shadow of the infamous Uniblab, who serves as sergeant of their US Space Guard platoon. What is the name of the Space Guard camp where Jetson, Henry and Uniblab found themselves during their service?

Answer: Camp Nebula

Space Guard duty is a rite of passage for men in the Jetsons' universe, including an older man like Henry Orbit. The only thing worse than shipping out immediately after getting the telegram tape telling Jetson that he's been drafted is finding out that his boss, Mr. Spacely, is a major in the Guard. Once again, Uniblab causes problems when he broadcasts Jetson telling unflattering stories about Spacely. Jetson and Henry switch Uniblab's battery pack to get revenge, but when General McMissile pins the Good Behavior Medal on the robot, he causes a short circuit that gets everyone in trouble!

This episode also exposes a continuity error in the show. In the episode "Uniblab", which aired before "G.I. Jetson", the troublesome robot tells one of the Spacely Sprockets secretaries that he is commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Space Guard.
9. In the episode "Miss Solar System", Jane Jetson decides on a whim to enter a beauty contest, to prove that she is still an attractive and vibrant woman. Under what title does Jane compete in this contest?

Answer: Miss Western Hemisphere

Like the real life Miss America that was popular at the time, the Miss Solar System pageant featured single young women showing off their beauty and their talents. Jane is encouraged by a neighbor to enter the contest, after George virtually ignores her new dress while watching an attractive actress on a popular variety show patterned on the famed Ed Sullivan's program.

Of course, the Miss Solar System contest featured a few complications. Mr. Spacely, the contest sponsor and chief judge, has to give up his chair when Mrs. Spacely crashes the pageant. And after George picks Jane, who wows the crowd with her singing, pandemonium breaks out because they're married.
10. In the final episode of the first season, "Elroy's Mob" (aired March 3, 1963), Elroy runs away from home after his parents hear what they think is his report-card tape. The tape, which actually belongs to classmate Kenny Countdown, makes the Jetsons think Elroy got some bad grades. What were the grades given on the tape?

Answer: 4 Ds, an F, and an H

Elroy is a fine student at Little Dipper Elementary School, so to hear such bad grades on a homework tape catches the family by surprise. Elroy tries in vain to explain that the grades are not his, but George and Jane don't believe him until Kenny Countdown's father calls and makes his son confess to switching the tapes. By then, Elroy and Astro have run away and gotten mixed up with mobster Muggsy Megaton. Eventually, Elroy escapes from his abortive life of crime, but not before his family is tied up by Megaton and his gang.

This episode of "The Jetsons" features a crossover with Hanna-Barbera's first primetime property, "The Flintstones". Kenny is seen in the classroom watching part of an episode on his wrist-television, before the class's robot teacher takes it away from him.
