The Heck family lives in the fictional small town of Orson, Indiana. The Pacers (NBA) and Colts (NFL) both play in Indianapolis, the capital of the state. In some ways the Hecks are a typical family, but in many other ways they are quite dysfunctional. The show premiered in 2009.

Frankie is an emotional mom who quite often switches from fragile and insecure to overbearing and meddlesome within each episode. She constantly pries into other peoples' business and usually gets in trouble as a result. Above all else, she loves her family and wants what is best for them.

Frankie is subjected to a cruel boss and strange coworkers at Ehlert Motors. Unfortunately, selling cars is simply not her strength. After being fired she goes back to school and becomes a dental hygienist.

Mike is the manager of a local quarry. He usually gets along well with his employees. However, in one episode he and his coworkers discover dinosaur bones on the site. The workers aren't too happy with him when he reports it to the local officials and the quarry is shut down for a few months for further investigation. Mike is played by Neil Flynn, who gained fame as the janitor on "Scrubs".

For the first several seasons, Axl struggles to pass basic high school classes as all of his focus is on friends and sports. Not surprisingly, Axl continues his academic problems at EISU as well.

The only reason she makes the team is because it has a "no-cut" policy! During her first meet she takes a wrong turn and gets lost in the woods for several hours. In later episodes, Sue becomes the head cheerleader for the wrestling team, not to be confused with the "real" cheerleaders for the football team.

Brick is the brightest member of the family. However, he has many issues with social interactions. His best friend in elementary school is the counselor. Also, Brick has one of his birthday parties at his at his favorite place - the library!

After winning tickets in a contest, the family drives from Indiana to Florida only to find that the tickets were for Disneyland and not Disney World! They still manage to get into the park and, in true Heck fashion, irritate each other immensely.
