Because the players lost this game, speculation became rife that any of the players who had performed in the game could have sabotaged it. Rob suggested that Al could have easily just accepted an incorrect answer, knowing it would not be correct in figuring out the combination to open the chest containing the $35,000.

Al was first to voice concerns over Patrick's agitating nagging. He said during a confession, "You think you're going into a regular conversation, and before you know it he's extracting information from you. It's like - give me a break..."

However, the "smart players" succeeded in their task, and were able to add a total of $50,000 into the pot.

Dorothy received immense praise for solving this brain teaser. However, Katie and Myra deemed it as being incredibly suspect, as Dorothy seemed to have suddenly solved the puzzle at the very last minute. The "smart players" received exemptions for solving the brain teasers.

Patrick purposely violated the rules of the game by ripping pages out of Katie's journal in order to get information from it, and justified himself by saying that he would "lie, use guile, and deceit" in order to move forward in the game. Many players believed that Patrick had damaged his chances of winning, as no other players would want to give him any more information after seeing how low he would stoop to win.
