Before they arrived, a skunk stowed away aboard their bus, causing them, their clothes, and their dog to smell offensive. When they checked into their hotel, they had to leave their dog on the bus. The family was able to get rid of the smell in time for the performance by bathing in tomato juice, but there was no time to 'shop' for new clothes. Their manager, Ruben Kincaid, came up with the idea to 'borrow' and 'purchase' clothing from various people in and around their hotel. On the way to the performance, a well-meaning young man (who had a bad cold) saw their dog on the bus and decided to return her to the family. He placed the dog into the cab with them, which caused them to smell offensive again. With no time to spare, they ended up giving the performance in a glass-enclosed operating room, with the children and nurses looking on from a booth above. What song did they perform? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Richard Pryor and Lou Gossett, Jr. guest starred as brothers having a benefit performance to save their firehouse. What group was scheduled to play but, because of a scheduling mix-up, the Partridge Family was sent instead?

Answer: The Temptations

The Simon brothers borrowed money from a loan shark ("Heavy") to pay off their firehouse, which was being used as a community center. Realizing that they could not repay the loan, they came up with a plan to have a benefit. They requested The Temptations, but the booking agent mistakenly sent The Partridge Family instead. Due to sabotage, the benefit performance was a tremendous flop: noone showed up except "Heavy" and his "boys". Undaunted, Laurie announced that the family had come up with the idea to have a block party. Local merchants would be asked to donate food and drinks, and the community would be asked to make financial donations. Of course, the party was a success.

The family performed the soulful song, "Bandala".
2. Keith was asked to chaperone a beautiful princess in one episode. Which actress played the role?

Answer: Season Hubley

Season Hubley played Princess Genevieve, also known as "Genny". Princess Genny and Keith tried to enjoy each other's company, but, unfortunately, the Princess' bodyguards made it difficult. The pair did manage, however, to have a fun afternoon at an amusement park. This episode featured the song, "Together We're Better" from the album "Partridge Family Notebook".
3. In one episode, Laurie got braces. However, they kept picking up radio signals. At one rehearsal, a rock group's music was playing "in her mouth". Which group was it?

Answer: The Rolling Stones

The problem with the radio signals playing in Laurie's mouth was that they distracted her and caused her to play piano off-key. By the way, this episode featured actor Mark Hamill as Laurie's boyfriend, Jerry. Hamill would, of course, go on to star as Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" films.
4. The family pet was a dog named Samantha.

Answer: False

The dog's name was Simone.
5. In one episode, The Partridge Family was scheduled to perform for children in a hospital.

Answer: Brand New Me

Though they sounded great, as usual, their dress was interesting to say the least. The outfits included a colorful circus ringmaster, which was worn by Shirley.
6. One episode featured the family performing a song about a man trying to reach his long-lost love by telephone after a considerable period of time. Name the telephone number he tried to call.

Answer: Echo Valley 2-6809

"Echo Valley 2-6809" was co-written by composer Rupert Holmes, who later had a hit, "The Pina Colada Song".
7. In one episode a young runaway named Maggie hitched a ride with the family. Where was her intended destination?

Answer: Albuquerque, NM

The young hitchiker was trying to get to Albuquerque, New Mexico. This episode featured the song, "Point Me in the Direction of Albuquerque".
8. In one episode Chris ran away because he thought he was adopted.

Answer: False

It was Danny who ran away from home because he believed he was adopted. The fact that Shirley couldn't find his birth certificate, and that he was the only family member with red hair convinced him of this. This episode featured the song, "Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted?" from the Partridge Family's second album, "Up to Date".

By the way, in another episode Chris did run away with his sister, Tracey.
9. The group intended Shirley to be a vocalist in the group.

Answer: False

The group had planned to audition another vocalist. When she didn't show up, they decided to ask Mom to join them.
10. The Partridge Family was loosely based on the real life family group, The DeFranco Family.

Answer: False

The Partridge Family were based on the real-life group, The Cowsills.
