Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Tony and Carmela were high school sweethearts. When Tony first came to her door for a date, he brought something with him. What was it?

Answer: A power tool as a gift for her father

Tony probably knew Carmela's father, a contractor, would appreciate a high-end power tool. Carmela's parents, Hugh and Mary DeAngelis, were frequently in attendance at family events and holidays, and Hugh had a particular fondness for Tony.
2. Early in their relationship, Tony cheated on Carmela with one of Carmela's friends, who later married one of Tony's friends. Who was it?

Answer: Charmaine Bucco

Charmaine told Carmela that she and Tony got together one summer while Carmela was out of town before the two were married, hinting that she'd had her chance with Tony and later chose a more honest man, Artie. Later in the series, during Carmela and Tony's separation, Tony considered asking Charmaine, also separated at the time, out, praising her cooking especially.

But Tony and Carmela reunited before that could happen.
3. Carmela often prayed with the local parish priest, Father Intintola, over the state of Tony's soul. But in the third season, she consulted another priest, this one a doctoral candidate in psychology, Dr. Obosi. He gave her advice that seemed to give Carmela a way of coping with her morally complicated life. What was the advice?

Answer: "Live on the good and forgo the bad."

Dr. Obosi's words about living only on the good were likely a huge relief for Carmela to hear, as it allowed her to keep her comfortable lifestyle without, in her mind, living off Tony's crimes. Dr. Obosi was a more nuanced adviser that Father Intintola or Dr. Krakow, the psychiatrist Carmela saw once who refused her "blood money."
4. Carmela developed a crush on a widowed contractor she hired to re-wallpaper her dining room. The feeling was mutual and they stole a kiss in a room of the house. Which room was it?

Answer: Powder room

It was an impulsive and brief enough kiss in that bathroom, and Carmela managed to pull away. But, against her better judgment, she later invited Victor Musto over for lunch. She was crushed when one of his workers arrived instead of Victor. Later, she found Victor at a hardware store and thanked him for stopping things where they were.

It was a calculated move that showed Carmela's integrity, or power, or both.
5. Tony was a powerful crime boss, but Carmela wasn't above wielding her power when it came to her children. She pressured her neighbor Jeanie Cusamano's twin sister Joan to do what?

Answer: Write a college letter of recommendation to Georgetown for Meadow

Never did a pineapple ricotta pie looked so threatening as when Carmela insisted Joan write a letter of recommendation for Meadow, whom poor Joan had never met. Joan was a tough cookie of her own, but even she couldn't say no to Carmela.
6. Carmela could sum up a situation pretty well. When Janice and Richie's engagements ended because....well, let's just say it ended with a bang, what did Carmela say about it?

Answer: "That was not a marriage made in heaven."

Richie and Janice might have been high school sweethearts for a time, but they were not at all a match made in heaven. When Janice tried to explain to Tony, "We have history!", Tony had an insightful response: "Palestine and Israel have history!"
7. Carmela put up with Tony's infidelity through gritted teeth. Tony often gave her an expensive gift when he was cheating. Which gift did he NOT give her during the series?

Answer: Manolo Blahniks shoes

Tony did indeed lavish gifts on Carmela, but it was Christopher who gave Manolo Blahniks to Adriana, not Tony to Carmela. And the summer house is a bit of a stretch... he put the deposit down but pulled out of the deal unethically. As the years went on, Carmela seemed less enamored with the material gifts but she was thrilled when he pulled strings to get her real estate project through the permit systems.
8. Completely unbeknownst to Tony, Carmela and Furio Giunta, one of Tony's men, fell for each other without ever saying so explicitly. There was occasion where she and Furio danced together without drawing suspicion. What was the occasion?

Answer: Furio's housewarming

Furio bought a little house with plans to move his mother there some day with him, and threw a housewarming party. He had traditional Italian dancing, and Furio and Carmela danced with only a minimal of touching, all they ever got to have. Soon after, Furio realized that the only way to have Carmela would be to kill Tony, and, unable or unwilling to do that, he fled back to Italy without saying goodbye.

His abrupt departure threw Carmela into a deep depression.
9. In "White Caps", Tony returned home one day only to see his belongings, including his golf clubs, being thrown out the window. A whopper of a fight ensued, and Carmela told Tony she was divorcing him. What news had she recently heard that led to this decision?

Answer: Tony had cheated on her with Svetlana, his former girlfriend's cousin

"White Caps" was an intense episode, with Carmela's finally reaching her breaking point with Tony's infidelity. He'd had a one-time affair with Svetlana, who was Irina's cousin but also a woman who was smart enough to know a relationship with Tony would be bad for her and wouldn't see him again. Irina, jealous and drunk, called Carmela as revenge against Tony.
10. Carmela and Tony were separated for over a year, and, despite her best efforts to move on, including having an affair with AJ's school counselor, Mr. Wegler, Carmela was unable to leave Tony forever. Why did she take Tony back?

Answer: All of these

In the end, unable to secure an attorney, or establish a relationship with a regular citizen, Carmela took Tony back. At the negotiating table, Tony also agreed to fund the building of Carmela's spec house. In the final analysis, Carmela loved Tony and was devoted to him.

As Edie Falco, the actor who played Carmela, said after the show was over, "The love between Tony and Carmela is one of the greatest I've ever known." And James Gandolfini, shortly before his death in 2013, even said, "I'm still in love with Edie. And, of course, I love my wife, but I'm in love with Edie. I don't know if I'm in love with Carmela or Edie or both. I'm in love with her."
