Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A ruthless businessman gets to return to his past so he can relive his triumphs, but things don't occur as he remembered.

Answer: Of Late I Think of Cliffordville

Businessman Bill Feathersmith (Albert Salmi) likes nothing better than getting the best deal even if it means employing cut-throat tactics. Now that he's acquired all he can hope for, he's bored and longs to go back to his youth in Cliffordville, Indiana so he can begin his life of acquisition again. An elevator mysteriously leaves him off at the Devlin Travel Agency.

The travel agent (Julie Newmar) says she can provide what he wants, including youthful looks and memory of his life but he must surrender all of his wealth except for $1400.

He agrees, but finds his fiancée is not as good-looking as he remembered. He uses his $1400 to buy oil wells that are inaccessible to the tools of 1910, and is unable to explain to the machinists back then on how to construct modern tools.

The travel agent appears and offers to return Feathersmith to the present for $40. He sells his oil well deeds to a passing man for $40. When he gets back to the present, he finds himself a penniless janitor at his club, and the man he sold his wells to, the former janitor, is now the millionaire.
2. A reporter stumbles on a small town where inexplicable things happen.

Answer: Valley of the Shadow

Reporter Philip Redfield (Ed Nelson) stops for gas in the town of Peaceful Valley. His dog chases a cat, but the dog vanishes in front of his eyes. Later a man returns the dog to Redfield saying it simply wandered off, but Redfield is not convinced about this explanation.

He also finds out the hotel is empty and newspapers bear a 10 year old date. He meets Ellen (Natalie Trundy) who advises him to leave, but when he tries to, he runs into an invisible wall, wrecking his car. He is taken to a place where three men inform him that a stranger visited 100 years earlier and left formulas for making various devices that can construct matter, force fields and even reverse time. Redfield thinks the town should share its knowledge with the world, but the men disagree and give him two choices - stay in the town permanently, or be killed.

Naturally, he tells them he wants to stay, but secretly hopes to escape with the formulas. He asks Ellen to help him and she agrees. He steals the papers and uses the formulas to make a gun and shoots the men that try to stop him. Once he is out of town, Ellen asks him to look at the papers - they are blank.

He is suddenly back in the town - it was a test and he failed. They use a machine to erase his memory and send him on his way.
3. A man hears strange noises, doesn't recognize his home town, and the people there don't know him; then meets a man who looks like him.

Answer: In His Image

Alan Talbot (George Grizzard) hears strange noises, then inexplicably throws a woman to her death in a subway station. Later he has no recollection of the incident. He picks up his fiancée, Jessica, and drives to his home town. When they arrive, he sees buildings he hasn't seen before and his key does not fit in the door lock of what he thinks is his house.

He finds a person he doesn't know living in what was he thought was his aunt's home. His place of employment is a vacant lot. Even his parents' grave markers bear different names. Driving back he hears the strange noises in his head again which drive him wild.

He jumps out of the car and is struck by another car. When he looks at the wound there is no blood, just electronic components. Back at his hotel, he looks up the name and address of Walter Ryder, which his fiancée says is a name he spoke in his sleep.

He goes to the house and his key fits that lock. He meets a man named Walter who is his exact double. Come to find out, Alan is a robot built by Walter - a badly malfunctioning robot. Alan insists that Walter build another flawless robot for Jessica, but when he starts to write down her address, he flies into a rage again, attacking Walter. Later, Jessica answers her door to who she thinks is Alan, but it's Walter, who has deactivated the rampaging robot.
4. Stranded colonists survive on a hostile planet under what they perceive as the benevolent leadership of one man, but when a rescue ship arrives, he is unwilling to relinquish control of the colony.

Answer: On Thursday We Leave for Home

William Benteen (James Whitmore) has convinced the colonists they have survived for 30 years only because of his unerring and capable leadership. He has entertained them with stories about the wonders of Earth and stringing them along with promises of impending rescue.

However, one day a rescue ship DOES arrive. When the colonists start to pay more attention to the rescue party than to Benteen, he feels his leadership threatened. He tries to convince them that when they arrive back on Earth, they should all stay together as a group with him as their leader.

The people reject his idea. He desperately informs them that Earth is not the great place he told them it was; it is dangerous and they would not survive there without him as their leader.

The ship's commander suggests they put it to a vote and the people unanimously reject Benteen. In a rage, he tries to attack and disable the ship, then shouts that he intends to stay, then runs away. The people look for him, but he hides in a cave.

The ship's crew searches for him and shouts that if he doesn't come with them immediately, he will be left permanently. However, Benteen is imagining that he is still amid the colonists and telling them his "stories" of Earth. The tales suddenly make him realize that he actually wants to go back. He rushes out only to discover he's been stranded alone.
5. A meek man dreams of his idyllic childhood and returns to the street where he grew up.

Answer: The Incredible World of Horace Ford

Horace Ford (Pat Hingle) spends a great deal of time thinking about what he remembers as his happy childhood, so different from his adult life and its unwanted obligations and responsibilities. One day he decides to visit his old neighborhood on Randolph Street. Everything is as it was when he was a child, and even sees a former friend of his named Hermy.

Hermy is playing roughly with a group of boys and bumps into Horace, knocking his pocket watch into the street. Horace tries to chase the boys, but loses them.

He returns home and tells his wife, Laura, and his mother, about his experience, but they are incredulous. Later, Hermy shows up with the watch and gives it to Laura. The next day Horace returns to his old neighborhood and has the same experience, but manages to keep up with the young boys as they run away and overhears them talking about how peeved they are at not being invited to someone's birthday party. Soon Horace is obsessed with his childhood just remembering the fun he had.

He neglects his job and is fired. He returns to Randolph Street and learns that it was he who had spurned the boys. Suddenly he becomes a child and the boys attack him. Hermy arrives at Horace's apartment and returns his watch - a Mickey Mouse watch. Laura hurries to Randolph Street and finds Horace, still a boy, and injured. She turns away, but when she looks again, Horace has reverted back into an adult. He realizes that his childhood wasn't as happy as he remembered and is now ready to face his adult life.
6. Three astronauts observe their saucer wrecked on a planet and wonder if they've gone through a time warp and are seeing their gruesome future.

Answer: Death Ship

Captain Ross (Jack Klugman), Ted Mason (Ross Martin) and Mike Carter (Fredrick Beir) are on a mission to scout planets for possible colonization when they see a glint on a planet's surface. When they land to investigate, they see a duplicate of their ship and their dead bodies in it. Ross thinks they went through a time warp and see a "possible" future in which the ship is wrecked when they tried to leave.

Then he adds that if they don't try to leave, they won't crash. The other two men object to staying since they both have loved ones on Earth. Carter falls asleep and dreams he is in his home, but only sees "widows weeds" laid out in the bedroom and a telegram notifying his wife of his death.

He also sees two neighbors he knows have died. Suddenly he's back on the ship.

When Ross looks for Mason, he's also disappeared. Mason is dreaming he is reunited with his wife and daughter who were killed in an automobile accident. Ross appears to Mason in the dream and they fight, then are suddenly back on the ship. Ross now thinks their minds are being controlled by aliens on the planet to try to scare them away and prevent colonization.

The only way to prove otherwise is to take off and see what happens. There's no crash, but Ross wants to land again since they need to go back to collect environmental samples. However, when he sets the course, Carter tries to grab the controls and the ship plummets towards the planet. Fortunately, Mason and Ross are able to regain control, but when they land, they see the same shipwreck. Mason thinks they have already crashed and are dead, but Ross won't concede saying, "We're going to go over it again!". The scene then reverts to when they first saw the glint.
7. When a wax museum closes, the curator brings home some figures of notorious murderers.

Answer: The New Exhibit

Due to poor business, the owner of a wax museum informs his curator, Martin Senescu (Martin Balsam), that the museum is going to be sold and demolished. Martin pleads to bring home some of the figures that he cherishes. However, they are figures of notorious murderers - Jack the Ripper, Burk and Hare, Albert Hicks and Henri Landru. Senescu's wife, Emma, does not share her husband's enthusiasm for the figures.

After some time, Senescu finds no backers and the maintenance required to keep the figures in good shape is costing more money than he can afford. Martin spends almost all his time with his treasures, much to the dismay of Emma.

She plans to sabotage his little collection and sneaks down to the cellar to turn off the air conditioning, but the statue of Jack the Ripper comes to life and kills her. Martin thinks the police won't buy his story of animate wax figures, so he secretly buries Emma in the basement.

When Emma's brother, Dave, comes looking for her, Martin says she's gone away on a trip. Dave doesn't believe the story and starts searching for Emma.

When he gets to the cellar, he is killed by Hicks, making another grave for Martin to dig. Then the museum owner arrives to say he has a buyer for the figures. When the owner is alone with them, Landru kills him. Martin, returning, speaks harshly at the figures, but he hears them in his mind telling him that they didn't commit the murders, HE did. Later, the figures are on display at the new museum along with one addition - a man that murdered his wife, brother-in-law and employer - it's Martin!
8. A discontented man tries to change history and live in the past.

Answer: No Time Like the Present

Dana Andrews plays Paul Driscoll, a man fed up with the modern world. This episode is like a blend of "The Twilight Zone" episodes "Back There" and "A Stop at Willoughby". Paul uses a time machine to go back in history to try and change some events like he dropping of the A-bomb on Hiroshima, the sinking of the Lusitania, and he even tries to kill Adolf Hitler.

However, when he attempts to interfere, something always prevents his success. He then decides to go back and live in the 19th century. Thinking he can do so without getting involved in changing things, he keeps mum even when he knows President Garfield will be assassinated.

However, he reads in a history book he brought with him that the local school will burn down, injuring several children, when a runaway wagon carrying a kerosene lamp crashes into the building.

He knows he must take action and goes to the school. He sees a wagon near it and tries to unhitch the horses. The wagon's owner struggles with Driscoll and their fight spooks the horses.

The wagon careens right into the school. What Driscoll tried to prevent, he caused! He decides to return to the present and leave history alone.
9. An astronaut returning to Earth finds some disturbing discrepancies in his life.

Answer: The Parallel

While in Earth orbit, the capsule of Major Robert Gaines (Steve Forrest) disappears from the radar. The next thing he knows, he's in a hospital with no knowledge of how the capsule crashed but remained undamaged. Gaines begins to see other things that don't "jive" like his commander saying he never called Gaines wife prior to the launch, when Gaines knew he did; his house now has a fence in the front yard; and he is a colonel when he left with the rank of major. Even his perceptive little daughter is wary of him. If that weren't enough, the scientists examining his capsule find it is not the original one, but almost identical. Gaines is asked to identify the capsule and when he gets near it, he suddenly finds himself back in orbit and splashes down.

He reports to his commander that he was in a parallel world ALMOST a duplicate of Earth. Nobody believes him, attributing his delusion to the stresses of the mission. However, another officer rushes in with news that they've just seen an unidentified spacecraft on the radar and a radio transmission from COLONEL Gaines.
10. A passive man becomes obsessed with a museum display to the exclusion of everything and everyone else.

Answer: Miniature

Robert Duvall plays Charlie Parks, a man so diffident that he cannot relate to his co-workers or society in general. He lives with his mother who, along with other family members, constantly nag him to find a girl and get married. His sister even arranges a blind date for him which goes horribly wrong. One day on his lunch break, he wanders into a museum and becomes fascinated by a Victorian dollhouse display complete with a miniature figure of a woman he sees playing the harpsichord. Asking the museum guard how the small mechanism is accomplished, he is told there is no movement in the figure - it's simply a solid piece of carved wood.

When he returns to work, Charlie is fired. He is informed it's because he isn't a team player and is making the other workers uneasy. Pretending to look for another job, Charlie visits the museum every day, spending hours looking at the dollhouse and even falls in love with the doll and speaks to it. Now he sees other figures in the house like a maid and another man.

When the obviously sinister miniature man breaks into the house and carries off the woman, Charlie attacks the exhibit, trying to rescue his favorite figurine. Of course, he is thought of as a lunatic and sent to therapy. However, he easily dupes the psychiatrist into thinking he's cured and is released. He quickly returns to the museum where everything has been restored. He goes to the display and speaks to the little doll and tells her how lonely each of them has been and how they could be so happy together. Suspecting Charlie has gone back to the museum, his family look for him, but he's nowhere to be seen. When the museum guard looks into the dollhouse, he sees two figures, the original doll - and CHARLIE!
