Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who bought the Haney Place?

Answer: Oliver Douglas

Oliver Wendell Douglas, played by Eddie Albert, was a successful New York City attorney. He bought the Haney farm in Hooterville and moved his wife, Lisa out of their fabulous penthouse apartment into Haney's hovel. Oliver had always dreamed of becoming a farmer, even planting vegetables in pots on his New York balcony. This formed the premise for "Green Acres."
2. What was the name of the hotel in Hooterville?

Answer: The Shady Rest

The Shady Rest was a beautiful white farmhouse that had been converted to what we now refer to as a "bed and breakfast." A deep front porch with rocking chairs invited guests to "sit a spell," while the lobby inside was a charming intro to the comforts one would experience during one's stay there.
3. Who owned the hotel?

Answer: Kate Bradley

Kate Bradley owned and operated the Shady Rest. Unfortunately, Bea Benaderet, who played Kate, died of lung cancer in 1968, and "Petticoat Junction" went through a series of cast changes, with various people taking over the operation of the hotel. Uncle Joe Carson, played by Edgar Buchanan took charge; for a short while, Kate's sister, Helen, played by Rosemary DeCamp, helped out, and then Dr. Janet Craig, played by June Lockhart moved in and generally ran things.
4. What was the name of the train?

Answer: The Cannonball

The Cannonball was the Hooterville Valley's main form of transportation. As part of the C. and F.W. Railroad, the Cannonball was comprised of a steam engine, a coal car, and one mail/passenger coach.
5. Who was the Hooterville postmaster?

Answer: Sam Drucker

Frank Cady played Hooterville postmaster and general store owner Sam Drucker. Sam was a bachelor, but I believe would have married Kate Bradley in a heartbeat. Mr. Drucker's store was a favorite hangout for the citizens of Hooterville, with a checker board set up on a pickle barrel at all times.
6. What crop duster crashed in Hooterville and decided to make it his home?

Answer: Steve Elliott

Mike Minor portrayed Steve Elliott, who crashed his small plane when he spied the girls swimming in the water tank. He dated Billie Jo for a while, but ultimately fell for Betty Jo.
7. Where did the Bradley girls swim?

Answer: in the water tank

The girls swam in the train's water tank, with their petticoats thrown over the side. (Hence the title, "Petticoat Junction.")
8. Name the Bradley girls, from oldest to youngest.

Answer: Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo, Betty Jo

Billie Jo was portrayed by three actresses: Jeannine Riley, from 1963-1965; Gunilla Hutton, from 1965-1966; and Meredith MacRae, from 1966-1970. Bobbie Jo was played by two actress: Pat Woodell, from 1963-1965, and Lori Saunders, from 1965-1970. Linda Kaye Henning was the only actress to play youngest daughter Betty Jo.
9. What was the nearest "big" town to Hooterville?

Answer: Pixley

While Pixley was the nearest big town, as well as the most oft-mentioned, there were several other towns in the area: Crabwell Corners, Stankwell Falls, Bugtussle, and Bleedswell were but a few. It is impossible to determine the exact location of Hooterville, but Chicago was said to be three hundred miles away!
10. What Hooterville citizen hailed from Hungary?

Answer: Lisa Douglas

Lisa Douglas was played by Eva Gabor, sister of Zsa Zsa Gabor. As in real life, Eva's character was Hungarian by birth. Lisa often told fabulously wild stories, frequently told in flashbacks, about her life in Hungary and the way she met and married Mr. Douglas.
