One of Britain's longest-running soaps, 'Corrie' has graced our screens ever since 1960. 'Coronation Street' was originally going to be called 'Florizel Street' but creator Tony Warren changed it after being told it sounded like a washing powder!
2. 'EastEnders' has been with us since 1985. Known for not being the cheeriest soap, the very first episode featured what?

Answer: A dead body

Set in the fictional E20 borough of Walford, 'EastEnders' has lasted for over 25 years. The first episode opened with the body of Reg Cox dead in his armchair, murdered by nasty Nick Cotton.
3. 'Brookside' was Channel 4's flagship soap and ran for nearly 20 years. In which city was Brookside set?

Answer: Liverpool

'Brookside' made household names of Claire Sweeney and The Royle Family couple Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston. The soap centred on a cul-de-sac and the ups and down of the many families there.

Evil Archie (played by Larry Lamb) got his comeuppance by being whacked with the bust of Queen Victoria in the Queen Vic pub. Everyone thought Bradley Branning had committed the crime as he fell to his death running from the police, but at the very end of the live episode Stacey confessed to Max.
5. 'Emmerdale' had a name change in the late 1980s. What did we used to know this soap as?

Answer: 'Emmerdale Farm'

To attract younger viewers, 'Emmerdale' dropped the 'Farm' from it's title in 1989. The first years of the show focused on the Sugdens who were a farming family but once the name change came in, new characters could be introduced.

Letherbridge is said to be on the outskirts of Birmingham in the West Midlands. 'Doctors' centres on a bustling health centre and the lives and loves of the doctors and patients.
8. Aimed at a younger audience than others, 'Hollyoaks' has been with us since 1995. In a recent storyline the character of Blessing Chambers revealed that she used to be what?

Answer: A man

Much praise has been shown to 'Hollyoaks' for this storyline, not only affecting Blessing but her friends and loved ones too. The character of Blessing is played by Modupe Adeyeye, who previously appeared in 'EastEnders'.

Tina was murdered by Rob Donovan after her affair with Peter Barlow was exposed. Rob is the brother of Carla, Peter's wife. Michelle Keegan began playing Tina in 2008.
