Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "West Wing" episode 121: "Opposition Research". Matt Santos sets up his campaign headquarters. Which West Wing staffer is his campaign manager?

Answer: Josh

Josh convinced Santos to run for Democratic nomination. Santos accepted on one condition: that Josh run his campaign. Donna, after quitting her job with Josh, joined Bob Russell's campaign.
2. "West Wing" episode 122: "365 Days". Why does Leo write the number 365 on a whiteboard?

Answer: It's how long Bartlet has left in office

The episode commences with Bartlet's last State of the Union being wrapped up, and the staff busily trying to work out how best to spend their last year in office. Leo has been watching previous State of the Union addresses and is coming up with some ideas.
3. "West Wing" episode 122: "365 Days". What sporting event does the First Lady attend in order to boost her image?

Answer: A car race

Mrs Bartlet wants herself to be seen as more like regular people, so she attends a NASCAR race.
4. "West Wing" episode 123: "King Corn". Josh spends much of this episode trying to convince Santos to come out and publically support ethanol production in Iowa. Does Santos end up doing so?

Answer: Yes

Despite his reservations, Santos eventually realises it's in his campaign's best interest to come out and "take the ethanol plegde". Bob Russell also does so, but Republican candidate Senator Vinick decides not to.
5. "West Wing" episode 124: "The Wake Up Call". President Bartlet is annoyed when he isn't awoken in the early hours to deal with what type of airliner being shot down?

Answer: British

CJ makes the judgment call not to wake the President and to deal with the British PM herself. Later in the episode, Leo points out that if he was awoken in all such situations, he would have died from sleep deprivation.
6. "West Wing" episode 125: "Freedonia". Donna gets some unwelcome press attention when she berates someone wearing what kind of outfit?

Answer: A chicken suit

Josh has the idea of sending people dressed as chickens to ask Bob Russell why he is 'too chicken' to debate Santos. But the media focuses on Donna's reaction rather than the bizarre dressing up.
7. "West Wing" episode 126: "Drought Conditions". Which two former colleagues have a fight in the White House?

Answer: Josh and Toby

Both Josh and Toby are frustrated with what they see as betrayals: Toby for being abandoned for the Santos campaign, and Josh for Toby's leaking of material that they had worked on together. The fight escalates quickly into throwing of objects and even comes to blows, leaving Toby with a cut face and in tears.
8. "West Wing" episode 127: "A Good Day". Which neighbouring country is involved in a situation with the US that brings our revelations of an existing invasion plan of that country?

Answer: Canada

The situation escalates when US hunters are surrounded by Canadian troops on the border. Kate Harper notes that there is no "Canada Invasion Plan" in existence, but is quickly corrected on this point.
9. "West Wing" episode 127: "A Good Day". When Santos orchestrates a plan to win a stem cell vote by pretending a number of Democrats have left the building and are not present to vote. But does it work? Do they win the vote?

Answer: Yes

Republican speaker Jeff Haffley pulls the vote when he sees how many Democrats have turned up. So they all pretend to leave the building and fly back to their respective homes, hiding overnight in the White House on the hope that Haffley will call a new vote the next day (which he does).
10. "West Wing" episode 128: "La Palabra". Santos has his first Democratic Primary victory in California after which contender falls behind due to a media scandal?

Answer: John Hoynes

Hoynes is on the news for all the wrong reasons (again) when accusations of unwanted advances to a female staffer are revealed. In the meantime, Santos decides to mortgage his house in Texas to allow the campaign to continue.
11. "West Wing" episode 129: "Ninety Miles Away". Which country does Leo make a secret visit to in the episode?

Answer: Cuba

Leo and the President decide that this may be their last chance to have a meaningful conversation with the Cuban leader, Castro. Leo visits him at Ernest Hemingway's house without even letting the secret service know.
12. "West Wing" episode 130: "In God We Trust". Who does the President eat ice cream in the White House with in this episode?

Answer: Arnold Vinick

Vinick and Bartlet hold a very quick meeting after Vinick is confirmed as the Republican nominee. The President asks him to stay longer to make it look like they didn't agree on things so quickly. They discuss religion's role in politics, among other things.
13. "West Wing" episode 131: "Things Fall Apart". In the deadlock to nominate a Democratic candidate, who offers the Vice Presidency to the other candidate?

Answer: Russell offers it to Santos

Leo convinces Josh that Santos should take the VP spot on Russell's ticket, and Russell offers it to Santos. However, Santos decides not to take the deal and presses on for nomination.
14. "West Wing" episode 132: "2162 Votes". Does the President eventually back a single candidate for the Democratic ticket?

Answer: Yes

Bartlet backs Santos and that pushes the New York delegates into a decision, handing him the 2162 votes he needs for nomination.
15. "West Wing" episode 132: "2162 Votes". Who is surprised to learn that he is being offered a place on the Democratic ticket to run for Vice President?

Answer: Leo

Santos offers it to the third candidate, Baker, who refuses immediately. Josh and Bartlet both agree that Leo should be the candidate given his vast experience.
