Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did Roman Mindeli, an envoy from the Republic of Georgia, offer as a gift from the President of Georgia?

Answer: Uranium

The envoy had wanted to meet with Leo, but instead it was CJ on her first day as Chief of Staff who met him. At first she thought that the staff were playing a trick on her, but then realised that it was really happening. After getting depressed following a difficult time with the Secretary of Defense over the funding and storage of the uranium, CJ finally managed to take control of the situation.
2. Roger Quast was brought to the White House to play what game with the President?

Answer: Chess

Leo told CJ that the President should play chess once a week as it was a way of evaluating his mental faculties, to see if the MS was causing any problems. CJ found Roger Quast, a member of the Housing Department who had been on the Stanford Chess Team, to play a game but Jed insisted that CJ should play, assisted by Roger.
3. What was the name of John Hoynes' wife?

Answer: Suzanne

John Hoynes, the past Vice-President, re-appeared in season 6 promoting his new book. He also told Josh that he intended running for President and wanted Josh to join him. Hoynes' wife Suzanne appeared briefly with him after he had been interviewed on TV.
4. What was the name of the man who told Josh that there was an asteroid approaching the Earth?

Answer: Walter Sprout

A very nervous Walter Sprout said that a big asteroid was approaching and could collide with the Earth in forty-six hours. Josh and Leo had to deal with this information at the same time as dealing with the news that the President was partially paralysed during his visit to China.

There were various discussions about the effects of the asteroid, but in the end it missed by 73,400 miles.
5. At the start of his Presidential campaign, what topic did Santos discuss with Jamie and Janice Jardin at their home in New Hampshire?

Answer: Education reform

Santos insisted on talking about his policy ideas, in opposition to Josh who felt that it was too soon to be discussing policy in New Hampshire and that he should just be concentrating on telling people about himself. Josh was proved wrong at the next "meet and greet" as far more people turned up than expected because they were intrigued and curious about Santos.
6. When a British airliner was shot down over Iran, who was the British Prime Minister that CJ and Jed spoke to on the phone?

Answer: Maureen Graty

Maureen Graty was seen briefly on a White House TV, denouncing in very strong terms what she called a barbaric act against humanity. CJ and Jed were both concerned that she would overreact by ordering the bombing of Iranian nuclear plants. When it became apparent that the shooting-down was a mistake on the part of the Iranians who thought the airliner was an American spy plane, CJ realised that they could use this to embarrass the Iranians into apologising.
7. Who was Ricky Rafferty?

Answer: A late entry into the Democratic nomination race

Santos' team was alarmed when a speech from Senator Rafferty was taking press interest away from Santos. Josh realised that Rafferty's health-care plan was very similar to one that Bartlet had proposed and that only someone in the White House would have known the details.

This led to a fight between Josh and Toby who had been supporting Rafferty because he disapproved of Josh's choice of candidate.
8. What was the name of the young boy who was allowed to ask a question at Bartlet's press conference?

Answer: Cody Zucker

Cody was one of a group of middle-schoolers known as "Future Leaders of Democracy" who were visiting the White House. Toby was intrigued when Cody declared that their agenda was voting rights for children and arranged for him to attend the press conference. Cody asked the President about extending the vote to children and was thrilled when he got the reply that it was worthy of consideration.
9. Who conceded the Republican nomination to Vinick and then refused to become his running mate?

Answer: Don Butler

Rev Don Butler told Vinick that he could not run on a ticket with someone who was pro-choice in the abortion issue. In a television interview, he challenged Vinick to attend his church the following Sunday. Vinick's staff argued about whether he should go to church or not, but Vinick finally decided that he could not use the church for his own political purposes
10. Ernie Gambelli was the President of which professional union?

Answer: Teachers

In the stalemate at the Democratic Convention, Josh went to see Gambelli in an effort to pick up the teachers' votes. Gambelli refused to cooperate because of Santos' education policies. However, after Santos' inspiring speech to the convention, Bartlet himself spoke to Gambelli who as a result, cast New York's 284 votes for Santos.
