Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "M*A*S*H*" endured several character changes - and still managed to maintain (and even improve) quality. McLean Stevenson left and ended up starring in another sitcom, "Hello, Larry". What was true of the character, Larry?

Answer: Radio personality

Larry was a radio personality. The show didn't do well. Stevenson later said that he made a mistake: he thought that people loved him. They didn't - they loved Henry Blake. Larry Linville left; David Ogden Stiers (who did a fine job with a fuller, richer character)came on board. Mike Farrell did a nice job when he replaced Wayne Rogers as Hawkeye's buddy; Harry Morgan did a good job as the commanding oficer who replaced Stevenson.
2. "Cheers" also maintained quality while enduring cast changes. How was the departure of the Shelley Long character explained?

Answer: She was going away to write

Diane Chambers went off to do some writing (while Shelley Long went off to make some mostly forgettable movies). Kirstie Alley stayed with the show until its conclusion. Woody Harrelson replaced Nicholas Colasanto as bartender after Colasanto passed away.
3. "Happy Days" lost one of its key characters when Ron Howard left the series. Where was the character of Richie Cunningham said to have gone?

Answer: Greenland

Henry Winkler carried more of the load after G.I. Richie Cunningham went to Greenland.
4. "The Love Boat" ran for many seasons after Laurren Tewes left the show. Who replaced her?

Answer: Patricia Klaus

Klaus did a good job after Tewes left for personal reasons.
5. "Bonanza" lost Pernell Roberts. According to the movies after series finale, where was Adam?

Answer: Australia

Initially, there was consideration given to the possibility of "marrying him off" to a widow (played by Kathie Browne). When this didn't go over well with the public, Adam went away to Boston. The show did nicely without him; it also added David Canary ("Candy") to the cast.

The show could not, however, long survive the loss of Dan Blocker's character, Hoss. In the finale, it was revealed that he had settled in Australia.
6. "McMillan and Wife" changed its name to "McMillan" after Susan Saint James left the show. How was her absence explained?

Answer: Killed in an airplane accident

There was a passing reference (made by supporting character John Schuck) concerning Mrs. McMillan's death in an airplane accident. The show continued for a short while, then vanished.
7. "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" lost Valerie Harper to her own show. Where did Rhoda go when she left Minnesota?

Answer: New York

Rhoda goes to New York, where she works, marries, and visits her family.
8. What do "Bewitched" and "Superman" have in common?

Answer: Both had two actors play the same role

Both Noel Neill and Phyllis Coates played the same role: Lois Lane.
Similarly, both Dick Sargent and Dick York played the same role: Darrin Stevens (husband of Elizabeth Montgomery's character, Samantha).
9. "Mission Impossible" lost several of its original characters. Leonard Nimoy joined the cast; what character did he play?

Answer: Paris

Martin Landau played Rollin; Barbara Bain played Cinammon. Greg Morris played Barney.
10. Here's a hard one for last: "The Wild, Wild West" lost co-star Ross Martin. Who replaced him?

Answer: Charles Aidman

Aidman came on after several seasons when Martin developed health problems.
