Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Cheers" originally had "Coach" as the not-too-bright character in residence, then replaced him (after Nicholas Colasanto passed away) with Woody Boyd. Where does Woody Boyd come from?

Answer: Midwest

Hanover, Indiana. (I wonder if the folks in Indiana are amused.) A great show for a long time: everything it did, worked.
2. "MASH" had several characters that were less-than-swift .... although Radar and Klinger both grew considerably as the show went along. Major Burns, however, remained a clod until he (Larry Linville) departed the show. How did Burns depart the series?

Answer: Went berserk while away

Poor Burns flipped out after he lost Margaret. Good acting job throughout (in kind of a thankless role) by Linville - but the replacement, Major Winchester (David Ogden Stiers), added a wonderful new character to the series.
3. Bob Denver was hapless as Maynard G. Krebs ("Dobie Gillis") and as Gilligan. When the castaways try to make a silent movie about their predicament, what role did Gilligan play?

Answer: Savage Native

He played a savage native that menaced Mary Ann, thus demonstrating the dangers on the island. Denver was fine in both series, but that was about it for him.
4. Ted Knight played the egomaniacal Ted Baxter on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". Who played his equally vain (and handsome) brother?

Answer: Jack Cassidy

Cassidy played another empty-headed pretty boy. The others played (at different times) romantic interests for Mary.
5. Speaking of Ted Knight, he went on to star in "Too Close For Comfort". What was the name of the goofy character in that show?

Answer: Monroe

Jm J. Bullock (not a typo) played Monroe Ficus.
6. "Three's Company" had Mr. Roper (Norman Fell) play the fool - before the new landlord, Ralph Furley (Don Knotts) took over that role. Who plays the woman that plays up to Ralph because she thinks he has money and property?

Answer: Ruta Lee

Ruta Lee plays the golddigger. Langdon played Cindy's farmer relative in one episode. Wedgeworth played Lana, a regular on the series for a while. Anderson played a romantic interest for Jack in one episode early in the series.
7. "Hogan's Heroes" featured Andrew Carter (Larry Hovis) as the local goofball. What was Carter's expertise in the prison camp?

Answer: Chemistry and Explosives

Carter was a bit slow. LeBeau (Robert Clary) was the cook; Kinch (Ivan Dixon) was the radio operator. Newkirk (Richard Dawson) was the tailor.
8. "The Odd Couple" featured Al Molinaro as Murray, the cop. How does Murray get in good with his boss - at the expense of Felix and Oscar?

Answer: Busts Felix' and Oscar's poker game

Molinaro went on to play a somewhat similar role in "Happy Days".
(Anson Williams ("Potsy") also played a bit of a dolt there.)
9. Tim Conway played the ever-bumbling Ensign Parker on "McHale's Navy". Who played the fast-talking Gruber?

Answer: Carl Ballantine

Stroll played pretty boy "Virgil". Hastings played Elroy Carpenter, the lackey assistant to Captain Binghamton (Joe Flynn). Sand played Tinker.
10. Paul Benedict played the slightly odd Bentley in "The Jeffersons". Where did he work?

Answer: The U.N.

He was a translator. Disappeared more-or-less after that.
