The story of Felipe's arrival at the De La Vega hacienda was recounted by Diego in this episode. Diego found Felipe after his parent's had supposedly been killed in an attack. The attack was so traumatic for Felipe that he lost his voice. When Felipe left with his mother, Diego learned from Victoria that Felipe had actually been kidnapped for ransom.

The sure thing was a horse named Zeus who had been nursed to health from a broken leg. He was poisoned during a race and the poison slowed him down. The blacksmith gave Zeus something to counteract the poison in his system and Zeus lived. Zorro was challenged to a race by the same man with the stake being Tornado. Zorro won the race and exposed the man as the one who poisoned Zeus.

The Alcalde knew that Zorro would come out of hiding if he was aware that Victoria needed him. Alcalde Ramon had an actor friend come to the pueblo to play the part of a dead man. When Victoria was arrested for his murder, Zorro came out of hiding to reveal the dead man was not really dead.

While in the tavern in "The Legend Begins", Don Diego was listening to Sergeant Mendoza tell his soldiers about Indians that would appear out of the night and attack them. Sergeant Mendoza told Diego it wasn't the Indians he was afraid of or even the dark; it was the unknown.

When Diego and Felipe found the horse, he was protecting his colt. Diego was able to help the colt and win the trust of the horse. When they got back to the house, Felipe suggested they call the horse Tornado because he was fast like the storm.

Sebastian Moreno was an accomplished writer who had come to Los Angeles to reveal Zorro's real identity and write about him. After speaking with several people in the pueblo, Moreno decided to return home and write that he knew Zorro's real identity without divulging it. Diego realized the Alcalde would never let Moreno leave without knowing the truth about Zorro and followed Moreno out of the pueblo. Zorro was there to protect Moreno when he was attacked.

Moreno saved Zorro from being shot. When Zorro took Moreno to safety, he asked Moreno to reveal Zorro's true identity.

Moreno simply said, "You're Zorro".

Diego, Sergeant Mendoza, Alejandro, Victoria and Alcalde Ramon were tied up in Victoria's tavern and left to die. While they watched the fuse pass them, Victoria dreamed that Zorro took her away from the pueblo and Sergeant Mendoza dreamed that he defeated Zorro.

The Alcalde dreamed that he had been promoted. Diego was able to extinguish the flame when it passed him by knocking a bottle over on the flame. Everyone praised Diego for saving their lives.

Felipe found a fox in the cave behind the fireplace. He had come in through the secret door. The fox gave Diego the idea for the name of his alternate identity.
