Adventure Trivia Quiz

I am not sure if this was a popular game when people played Atari, but I loved it. The graphics were horrendous, but that added to its appeal. Please take this if you ever played that game and see what you know. Enjoy!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ok, so you were a dot that blipped in and out! There were no graphics in this game but at least it was a game where you had a plan and didn't just blow things up. You have levels to choose from to start. How many levels?

Answer: 3

Keeping it simple, there was easy, medium, and hard. Hard was set up so the prize was in a different place every game. Medium opened up a third area that you had to go in and use objects like the bridge. The easy level was just that... easy.
2. You had a few enemies in this game, but which ones were immediate threats that you had to kill or get away from immediately?

Answer: Dragons

There were three dragons in this game: a yellow one, a green one, and a red one. The yellow one was slow like he had been given Nyquil, the green one was also not the fastest guy in the world, but the red dragon could float through the screen. If you had a sword, they would run right into it.

The red dragon was not as easy of a dude to elude. In level 1, there is only the yellow dragon to contend with. On a side note: the dragons looked like depressed ducks.
3. What was the "big prize" that you had to get and bring somewhere to win?

Answer: A goblet

The goblet was in a fixed place in level 2 but could be anywhere (in black or white castle) in level 3. It was less than impressive and it changed colors every second. For the time, that was "big time" graphics for Atari.
4. What creature in this game was a thief and would always attempt to steal what you were carrying?

Answer: A bat

There was a bat that was annoying because you could not kill him and he just HAD to be carrying something different. He would take whatever possession you were holding, including the goblet and put it in an unreachable place. He also picked up dragons though... he was not too picky.

There were a few times, a dragon ate me and then the bat picked up the dragon and we'd take a crazy ride through the screens while being digested. I think that was an unintended side effect of the game for Atari.
5. Which fantastic Atari graphic depicted the catacombs?

Answer: Bright orange flashing lights in a room where you could see nothing

This was pretty weak. You would have to find your way through blinking orange lights but once you knew how to make it through, it was no problem.
6. In level 2: The goblet is in the black castle's catacombs.

Answer: False

It is in the white castle and is in a place that you cannot get to unless you find and bring the bridge. Pretty cool idea... just bad graphics. It was a great concept though.
7. There was a secret "microchip" in this game that if found and inserted into the right place, let you go past line on the right hand side of the screen.

Answer: True

I don't know who told me this but there was a place in the black castle where you could get a microchip and then go past the line on the right, which is usually where avatars stopped, and enter a "secret room". As was pointed out to me by someone who took this quiz, Warren Robinett, the game's creator, created this secret room because Atari had a policy where you could not place your name in the game itself.

This secret room was not discovered by the company until thousands of the games were sold. I had not known this before. Pretty cool, huh?
8. "Adventure" came free when you bought the Atari for a time.

Answer: False

When I bought my first "Atari 2600", the game that came free with it was "Combat." It changed several times over the years until Donkey Kong and Mario Brothers took over as the free cartridge.
9. Which element did "Adventure" bring to the video game that had never really been there before?

Answer: Reason

You had to think about what you were doing even though it was a game with blocks. You needed to bring a bridge with you, open the castles with keys, and use a sword to kill the ducks (or dragons). It was the first concept game.
10. You are only a blip. Do you have a name and what is it if you do?

Answer: Hero

Hero has to get the precious goblet back into the golden castle and attempt to avoid Yorgie, Grundel, and Rindell, the Red!
