Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which game Death does appear in a boss fight twice?

Answer: Portrait of Ruin

Death appears as a boss in the Mine of Judgement in "Dawn of Sorrow" and in the Mechanical Tower in "Order of Ecclesia". In "Portrait of Ruin", Death appears as a boss twice: once in the Tower of Death and once in the Throne Room. The Throne Room battle is a joint battle against Dracula and Death.
2. Which enemy is unique to "Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia"?

Answer: Curse Diva

The Cave Troll first appeared in "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" and has appeared in subsequent DS "Castlevania" games. The Iron Golem is found in both "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin" and "Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow", but with different sprites in each game. Glasya Labolas is only found in "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin".
3. What soul allows Soma Cruz to shoot three fireballs, with all three fireballs aligned vertically?

Answer: Hell Fire

The Hell Fire soul is acquired by completing the game in hard mode and was designed after Dracula's primary attack from "Akumajou Dracula X" (1993 Japan-only game). Dario Bossi is one of three enemies in the game that does not yield a usable soul upon defeat.
4. What is the fewest amount of boss fights that must be completed in order to complete "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin" with the best ending?

Answer: Fifteen

There are fifteen necessary boss battles and eight optional boss battles in "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin". In the game's monster guide, there are sixteen necessary bosses and ten optional bosses; however, several boss battles involve fighting mutiple boss enemies at once.
5. From what enemy can Shanoa acquire the Merman Meat in "Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia"?

Answer: Lorelai

The Merman Meat, despite the implication of its name, is only dropped by Lorelai. The Merman Meat is required for the last medicine quest; the completion of the quest will allow Super Potions to be bought from the village shop.
6. Which two-word glyph that begins with "Arma" does not allow Shanoa to transform?

Answer: Arma Custos

Arma Custos is the only glyph required to complete the game and can be acquired by defeating the boss Eligor. The Arma Feliz glyph, when activated, allows Shanoa to talk to the village cats that have been saved--these cats offer helpful hints on solving the game's secrets.
7. In "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin," Red Axe Armor and Red Skeleton enemies can not be killed with ordinary attacks. There are two weapons/attacks for killing these enemies -- which of the following is one of them?

Answer: Sanctuary Spell

The Sanctuary Spell is required to complete the game and can de found in the Sandy Grave area; however, it takes 10 seconds to cast, the longest casting time in the game. The other weapon is the Undead Killer, a whip acquired by killing 3000 enemies for one of Wind's quests.
8. In the DS "Castlevania" games, maps show rooms as rectangles; the sizes are based on small squares. For example, the final boss fights in "Order of Ecclesia" and "Portrait of Ruin" take place in rooms that consist of two small squares. Which game has the most amount of small squares, if the squares from all maps are totalled?

Answer: "Portrait of Ruin"

"Portrait of Ruin" has 1800-1900 squares in total, while "Order of Ecclesia" and "Dawn of Sorrow" have 1300-1400 squares each. The only area that does not have a square-type map is the Wygol Village from "Order of Ecclesia".
9. In "Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow," enemy souls can be synthesized with weapons to create better weapons. What is the last soul required to synthesize the last Great Sword, the Claimh Solais?

Answer: Alastor

Both the Gergoth soul and the Final Guard soul are required to create the Claimh Solais; the Abaddon soul is the last soul required to make the last sword, the Valmanway. Three categories of weapon require that a boss soul be forfeited in order to acquire the last weapon: Great Sword, Sword, and Axe.
10. Which set of boss music tracks is unique to "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin?"

Answer: "Destroyer", "Dance of Sadness"

The boss themes unique to "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin" are "Piercing Silence", "Destroyer", "Dance of Sadness", "Esquisse of Violence", and "Banquet of Madness". The tracks that play during the optional boss battles, "Great Gate of Darkness" and "Bloodlines Bequeathed", are from previous "Castlevania" games. The music of all three games is primarily composed by Michiru Yamane.
