Question 1 of 10
1. Regigigas' stats are fittingly colossal for a Pokémon of its stature. In particular, its Attack stat is absurd, good for third highest in the entire game in the fourth generation. What was Regigigas' Attack stat? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. With no stat falling beneath a 100 value except its worthless Special Attack, what competitive tier did Regigigas find itself lurking about in during the fourth generation? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. While Regigigas' stats suggest it could be a contender for best Pokémon in the whole game, in the fourth generation and pretty much onward, it was actually closer to the bottom of the barrel because of its terrible ability, Slow Start. Slow Start cripples Regigigas for five turns when it comes into play. What does it do? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Anybody actually looking to use Regigigas in a serious fight is asking for a headache while teambuilding. The first order of business is to equip Regigigas with a moveset it can use to try and stall out the five turns Slow Start is in effect. This, however, is extra cumbersome when the player realizes that traditional stalling moves, like Protect and Rest, are not viable on Regigigas. Why was this? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. With Rest and Protect not usable, Regigigas users had to get even more creative to try and stall out the five turns of Slow Start. What two move combo would Regigigas generally have to use to achieve this? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Regigigas' signature move Crush Grip has interesting potential, at least on paper. What does it do? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. In the fifth generation, Regigigas had counters flying all over the place in NeverUsed, so it's no surprise it ended up being straight up Untiered. Which of the following is an example of a Pokémon that could reliably switch into it and win? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. By the sixth generation, anybody still willing to try actually using Regigigas had long given up hope of turning a beastly sweep out of stalling out Slow Start. Still, Regigigas' great bulk that is not hampered by its horrible ability gave way to some kind of mediocre niche in the generation's PartiallyUsed tier. What role did Regigigas take on for roughly 0.07% of the playerbase here? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. The seventh generation released a flurry of changes to the game as a whole, many of which impacted Regigigas. What competitive tier was it in in this generation? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Regigigas has ultimately gone down in history as one of, if not the worst legendary Pokémon of all time. What is the biggest reason for this? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Regigigas' stats are fittingly colossal for a Pokémon of its stature. In particular, its Attack stat is absurd, good for third highest in the entire game in the fourth generation. What was Regigigas' Attack stat?

Answer: 160

At 160, Regigigas was just short of Rampardos' 164 and Deoxys-Attack's 180 for highest in the game. However, it was far bulkier than either of them and had much better Speed (in theory) than the former.
2. With no stat falling beneath a 100 value except its worthless Special Attack, what competitive tier did Regigigas find itself lurking about in during the fourth generation?

Answer: NeverUsed

Sadly, Regigigas was actually a horrible overall Pokémon. Monstrous stats and a workable movepool cannot make up for its awful "dis"ability that holds it back from being consistently useful.

Answer: Halves its Attack and Speed

That beefy 160 Attack stat is effectively an 80, while that respectable 100 Speed is an ugly 50. Slow Start is in effect for five turns when Regigigas hits the field. Sure, after it wears off, it can become a nightmare to deal with, but the likelihood of that happening is often quite slim, meaning that in practice, Regigigas scarcely ever gets to make full use of its amazing stats.

Answer: Regigigas lacked access to these moves

Regigigas joins an exclusive club with prestigious members such as Caterpie, Magikarp, Weedle and Wynaut as a Pokémon that somehow lacks access to Rest and Protect. It simply cannot learn these moves, a mechanic that was more than likely a balancing maneuver on Nintendo's part to make sure Slow Start couldn't be stalled out very easily.
5. With Rest and Protect not usable, Regigigas users had to get even more creative to try and stall out the five turns of Slow Start. What two move combo would Regigigas generally have to use to achieve this?

Answer: Thunder Wave + Confuse Ray

The good ol' parafusion strategy is generally used in single player mode to beat NPCs that the player might have trouble with otherwise. Such an elementary strategy is the best that Regigigas could do. It actually wasn't terrible if Regigigas could have a teammate also run Thunder Wave to help spread paralysis.

When confused and paralyzed, a Pokémon only has a 37.5% chance to use a move. Regigigas' great bulk is not hampered by Slow Start, meaning that the odds of stalling Slow Start out are improved if Regigigas can get the ball rolling with this two move combo.
6. Regigigas' signature move Crush Grip has interesting potential, at least on paper. What does it do?

Answer: Does more damage the more HP the target has

In order to determine how much damage this move does, take 120 and multiply it by the target's current HP divided by their maximum HP. Thus, if used on a Pokémon at full HP, it was a Base 120 attack. If Regigigas could ever stall out Slow Start and somehow not damage the opposing team much at all, Crush Grip could be a sweeping or a wallbreaking tool.

However, Return's constant Base 103 power was more consistent and did more damage than Crush Grip if the target ever lost more than roughly 15% of their HP, which was almost what the ubiquitous Stealth Rock would do anytime they switched in. So, Return was always the move of choice over Crush Grip.
7. In the fifth generation, Regigigas had counters flying all over the place in NeverUsed, so it's no surprise it ended up being straight up Untiered. Which of the following is an example of a Pokémon that could reliably switch into it and win?

Answer: Ghost types in general

Ghost types were immune to Regigigas' STAB attacks and could easily shrug off a Slow Start-hindered coverage move, if Regigigas even happened to have one. Most Regigigas sets by this point didn't even come equipped with a coverage move, meaning that Ghost types would wall it forever even if Slow Start did wear off.

The list is extensive and includes prominent figures such as Golurk, Misdreavus, Drifblim and more. Worse yet, even if Regigigas could hit them with a coverage move, Golurk could out-slug it with strong Earthquakes and perhaps super effective Drain Punches, while Drifblim and Misdreavus could infinitely cripple it with Will-o-Wisp. Thus, Dark type teammates were a must for the handful of people who actually still wanted to use Regigigas at this point.

Answer: Tank

Regigigas did have decent utility options, such as Knock Off or Thunder Wave, to make a Tank set at least not wickedly horrible. Its 110/110/110 bulk was far above average by PU standards as well. Lacking access to Rest was incredibly annoying, as Regigigas would either need clerical support on its team or would be immensely crippled by any form of status due to lacking said move.

This is also why it literally didn't even see one tenth of a percent usage on teams across the generation, leading to yet another trip towards Untiered status.
9. The seventh generation released a flurry of changes to the game as a whole, many of which impacted Regigigas. What competitive tier was it in in this generation?

Answer: Untiered

Every single one of these changes served to just make Regigigas all the more terrible. The introduction of Z-Moves made stalling out Slow Start even less fruitful, as there were Pokémon who boasted more theoretical power, and far more power in practice than Regigigas due to said Z-Moves. Regigigas' total lack of reliably recovery and high bulk would've made it a gaping target for such a move if anyone had actually bothered to take it to a serious match in the first place for it to be a target. Thus, Regigigas was just pitifully bad, filling no notable niche in the seventh generation in any competitive tier.
10. Regigigas has ultimately gone down in history as one of, if not the worst legendary Pokémon of all time. What is the biggest reason for this?

Answer: Its ability

Its movepool is clunky and its typing is auspicious, but with its monstrous base stats, Regigigas could've easily overcome these deficiencies. However, Slow Start is doubtlessly the worst ability ever created and it has thoroughly ruined any chance Regigigas has had of being relevant in even mid tier play, much less standard play or Ubers.
