Question 1 of 10
1. The very first boss the player encounters faces off with them mere seconds after they actually begin the game. The dreaded Vanguard Demon towers over the player, with a huge weapon in hand, definitely not caring how new or experienced they are when it uses its huge cleaver to try and slice them in two. Is this boss fight actually mandatory to defeat?

Question 2 of 10
2. The player arrives in the Gates of Boletaria, getting a moment to catch their breath as they travel throughout the world. They will eventually make their way to a boss fight here. Who is the boss of the Gates of Boletaria? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Before the player can utilize important resources, such as level up, purchase items, or repair their gear, they must defeat a boss found in the first world. Who is this? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. "Demon's Souls" is unique amongst games developed by FROM Software, in that boss fights can actually yield a secondary trophy for defeating the boss and doing it in a very specific, certain way. The Tower Knight boss offers the first chance to witness this. Simply defeating the Tower Knight grants the player one trophy, but how can they earn a second one here as well? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Boss weapons are powerful tools the player can earn from defeating bosses, looting their souls, and taking them to Blacksmith Ed to fuse with a particular weapon of some kind. However, Blacksmith Ed requires the player to simply give him a boss soul in order to move forward with this arrangement; failing to give him this soul will prevent the player from ever acquiring a boss weapon in that playthrough. What boss's soul must the player deliver to Blacksmith Ed so that he may do this? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. After finally reaching the end of the Prison of Hope, the player must fight the Fool's Idol boss. However, simply running to the boss fight and expecting to beat her is fruitless; even if you deplete her HP to zero, the fight will only end once the player has achieved one thing before entering the boss fight. What is this? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. In order to reach the Penetrator and King Allant boss fights, the player must first defeat an Archdemon, which will allow them access into the areas Penetrator and King Allant reside in. Which of the following is an example of an Archdemon boss fight? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. The Maiden Astrea boss fight is a little bit of a strange one. One way of winning the fight would be to simply kill Maiden Astrea. However, a second way to win the fight is arguably easier. What is another way to defeat Maiden Astrea? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. The Storm King boss fight is also unique. Magic and Archer classes will breeze through this fight without struggling. Melee classes, however, will have a much tougher time. In fact, only one melee weapon can actually be used to damage Storm King. What melee weapon is this? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. The Old Monk boss fight is arguably the most volatile fight in the game; the player could either breeze through it, or get completely and utterly destroyed. The Old Monk himself is not actually the boss to fight; the warrior he summons will do battle with the player. If the player is playing online, who is the warrior the Old Monk summons? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: No

As a matter of fact, the overwhelmingly vast majority of the playerbase loses to this boss. Per FROM Software, the PS3 version of "Demon's Souls" saw just a miniscule 0.04% of players actually overcome this boss. This boss will generally one-shot a player with its huge cleaver, and it is supremely tanky against the player's meager starting weapon. Clearly, this fight was not really intended to be winnable. It is possible, and has been done before, but it is an arduous, tedious process where so much as a single mistake results in defeat.

Additionally, losing to this boss locks the fight off, so there are no second tries!
2. The player arrives in the Gates of Boletaria, getting a moment to catch their breath as they travel throughout the world. They will eventually make their way to a boss fight here. Who is the boss of the Gates of Boletaria?

Answer: Phalanx

The Phalanx Demon is the first boss that the player is actually forced to eventually defeat, and yields unlimited number of tries should the player lose. Fortunately, Phalanx is extremely easy even for brand new players, so having to retry the fight will almost never become an issue.
3. Before the player can utilize important resources, such as level up, purchase items, or repair their gear, they must defeat a boss found in the first world. Who is this?

Answer: Phalanx

The player can reach The Nexus, the game's hub world, but remaining here is virtually pointless since just about everything is closed off to them. Defeating Phalanx will correct this and enable them to do just about whatever they want.

Answer: Leaving all of the surrounding archers alive

Before facing the Tower Knight, a cutscene will play that calls attention to about a dozen archers that completely surround the battlefield, and will all begin to fire at the player once the fight begins. If the player defeats Tower Knight without killing a single archer, they will receive two trophies instead of just one.

Answer: Flamelurker

Defeating Flamelurker grants the player the Searing Hot Demon Soul. Giving this item to Blacksmith Ed will allow him to always be able to craft boss weapons, provided the player has the requisite materials to do so.

Answer: Ensuring she cannot be resuscitated

If the player simply rushes directly to the boss room and slays Fool's Idol, she will fade away but nothing will happen. The player won't be credited for winning. This may seem like a glitch of some sort, but in actuality, Fool's Idol is being preserved by a Prisoner using resuscitation magic on her.

This Prisoner can be found in a tall tower at the top floor right outside of the boss room. You can tell it's the right one because he is eyeing down a large black hole of some kind, using a light green magical spell that is travelling down the hole. Killing him will prevent Fool's Idol from resurrecting; from there, simply killing her again will allow the player to win the fight.
7. In order to reach the Penetrator and King Allant boss fights, the player must first defeat an Archdemon, which will allow them access into the areas Penetrator and King Allant reside in. Which of the following is an example of an Archdemon boss fight?

Answer: Dragon God

Archdemons are bosses who appear right at the end of each of the five worlds, in essence acting as that world's final boss. Dragon God is the last boss found in world two. Slaying him would count as slaying an Archdemon, enabling access to the Penetrator and King Allant boss rooms.

Other Archdemons which fit this description would be Old Monk (World 3), Storm King (World 4) or Maiden Astrea (World 5).
8. The Maiden Astrea boss fight is a little bit of a strange one. One way of winning the fight would be to simply kill Maiden Astrea. However, a second way to win the fight is arguably easier. What is another way to defeat Maiden Astrea?

Answer: Killing her bodyguard

In the cutscene before the fight begins, Maiden Astrea resurrects and summons Garl Vinland to do battle with the player and protect her from the player. Killing Garl Vinland will cause her to surrender and kill herself, winning the fight for the player.

Actually trying to kill Maiden Astrea and ignoring Garl Vinland is definitely easier said than done, as he hits like a truck with his signature weapon, the Brandt. However, doing so will cause Garl Vinland himself to surrender and immediately die. It will also grant the player a second trophy, received for winning the fight specifically without killing Garl Vinland.

Killing Garl Vinland allows the player to loot his armor, the Dark Silver set. This set is incredibly tanky, but also very heavy and hinders stamina regeneration greatly when worn.
9. The Storm King boss fight is also unique. Magic and Archer classes will breeze through this fight without struggling. Melee classes, however, will have a much tougher time. In fact, only one melee weapon can actually be used to damage Storm King. What melee weapon is this?

Answer: Storm Ruler

The Storm Ruler, when used in this specific boss fight, will charge up a fierce spell of some kind, then blast a large wall of wind at the Storm King and its accompanying manta rays. They are all extremely weak to this attack, and will crumple very quickly upon repeated use.

The Storm Ruler will not do this anywhere but this specific boss fight. It has extremely low durability, cannot be buffed, cannot be upgraded, and has a very low base power, so it is entirely useless outside of this boss fight. However, for melee classes, it is compulsory in this boss fight.

Answer: Another player

That's right, the actual boss fight here is another player! Chosen at random, the player encountered might be a lowly, unskillful one, or they could theoretically be a professional, someone who has put thousands of hours into the game and is totally ready to destroy their challenger. Because of this, the general difficulty of this boss fight can't really be measured due to such volatility.

When played offline, however, the Old Monk will summon a Black Phantom who uses the Claws for a weapon and has a parrying shield for an offhand.

This boss fight is then extremely easy, so if the player is having a rough time fighting other players, they could briefly enter offline mode to try again, then return to being online after achieving success.
