A furnace can smelt one item every ten seconds. Coal/charcoal can fuel a furnace for eighty seconds, allowing you to make eight items. Wooden objects can fuel a furnace for fifteen seconds, meaning you can make one and a half items.

Answer: Java

Because "Minecraft" is written in Java, any computer with Java can run it.
In version 1.6, Java 1.5 support was dropped meaning PowerPC users with Mac OS cannot play it anymore.
