Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lnd

Answer: Land

Made in 1989 for Nintendo as a launch title for their Game Boy, "Super Mario Land" is much like Super Mario Bros., but was made to be played on a smaller screen. The game is set in Sarasaland, and, for the first time, Princess Daisy is introduced. Mario is to rescue her from the evil spaceman, Tatanga. There are twelve levels to the game.
2. Th Lst Lvls

Answer: The Lost Levels

"Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels" (1986), introduced in Japan as "Super Mario 2", was a sequel to "Super Mario Bros." that was released in 1985. Princess Peach of the Mushroom Kingdom is being chased by Bowser, who is also known as King Koopa. The two games are similar, except for the fact that The Lost Levels features a Luigi, who does not have the same powers as Mario, it was not made for two players to play at the same time, and there are some different obstacles for the brothers to overcome.
3. Wrld

Answer: World

"Super Mario World" (1990) was the first to be made for use with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. After the brothers, Mario and Luigi, save the Mushroom Kingdom, they need a vacation, and go to Dinosaur Land. While the premise of this game is similar to earlier ones, with Mario and Luigi trying to save Princess Toadstool from Bowser and the Koopalings, it does introduce a new character - Yoshi, the dinosaur. Considered to be one of the best video games made, "Super Mario World" sold over 20 million copies and led to both a prequel and a television series called "Yoshi's Island (1995).
4. Snshn

Answer: Sunshine

"Super Mario Sunshine" (2002) was released by Nintendo for play on the GameCube. Mario is taking another vacation, but without his brother, Luigi. It features Mario, Princess Peach, and her steward, Toadsworth, on the island of Delfino. The island has been defaced with graffiti, and Mario's clean-up help is needed.

There is, however, a problem. Mario is accused of being responsible for defacing the island and he been told that he cannot leave until it is clean. The game recounts Mario's adventures as he looks for the person called Shadow Mario who really created the graffiti and kidnapped Princess Peach. During the course of the adventure it is revealed that Shadow Mario is actually Bowser Jr., the son of Bowser.
5. Nw

Answer: New

"New Super Mario Bros." (2006) was made by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. The main characters are Mario (the player can choose to be either Mario or Luigi), Princess Peach, Bowser, and Bowser Jr. It includes 80 levels in eight different worlds; the player must defeat both Bowser and Bowser Jr. before he is able to rescue the Princess. During the course of the game, Mario confronts and is able to "kill" Bowser several times, however, there always seems to be a way that Bowser Jr. can revive his dad. Of course, in the end Mario is able to rescue the princess.

In some areas of play in "New Super Mario Bros." Mario has the ability to reduce his size and squeeze into small places, as well as another powerup where he becomes larger and destroys everything in his path.
6. Mkr

Answer: Maker

At "The Game Awards" in 2015 the game won the category for Best Family Game; at "Gamescom Awards" it won for Best Social/Casual/Online Game.
7. Rn

Answer: Run

Made to play on mobile devices with one hand, "Super Mario Run" was released by Nintendo to use on iOS (2016) and Android (2017). There are three main games; in the first characters run, jump, and collect coins. In the second game, called "Toad Rally", players must have a Rally Ticket, which is earned in the first game.

They may use rewards they have earned to create their own Mushroom Kingdom in the third game. In all games there are appearances by the typical Mario characters who offer tools that can help finish the levels of play. "Super Mario Run" has been offering as a demo, and players must then pay if they choose to finish the game.

It was downloaded 50 million times the first week of its release!
8. Dyssy

Answer: Odyssey

"Super Mario Odyssey" (2017) was made by Nintendo for use on the Nintendo Switch. In this game, Mario is joined by Cappy, a spirit who turns into Mario's hat. There is to be a wedding on the moon! This time Bowser plans to make Princess Peach marry him. Cappy's sister has also been taken to the moon to served as a wedding tiara for the princess. Together Mario and Cappy collect Power Moons to fuel their airship, the Odyssey.

At the end of the game, both Mario and Bowser ask to marry Princess Peach. Both are rejected; Mario returns to the Mushroom Kingdom, while Bowser is left on the moon.
9. S

In the game Mario has a dream about a staircase that leads to another world; when he tells Luigi, Princess Peach and others about it, he finds that they have have had the same dream. When they go on a picnic together, the group finds a cave with the same staircase that takes them to the world of Subcon.

After defeating the evil tyrant there, Mario awakens. Was it real? Or just a dream?
10. Glxy

Answer: Galaxy

In this adventure, Mario not only saves Princess Peach from Bowser and Bowser Jr., he also saves the world while traveling through several galaxies. Mario must collect Power Stars, finding help along the way from Luigi and the Toads, before he can travel to the center of the universe to free the princess.
