Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Final Fantasy VII" - In this game there are two optional characters that can be obtained. You find Vincent in the basement of the Shinra Mansion. To obtain the key to the room where he is you must first open the safe in the first room on the left hand side of the hallway on the upstairs level. What is the combination for the safe?

Answer: R36, L10, R59, R97

The are some papers in the first room on your left that you can enter when you go into the Shinra Mansion. These papers include instructions on how to open the safe and obtain the Key to the basement where Vincent is found. They are not however detailed instructions but clues on where to find the four numbers required to open the safe.

After you have found all four you can open the safe. When you have opened the safe you are attacked by a Boss enemy called Lost Number. For defeating Lost Number you obtain Red XIII's extreme Limit Break Cosmo Memory and then you can pick up the Odin Summon Materia and the Key to the basement from the now open safe.
2. Final Fantasy VII" - Which member of the Turks appears to be killed by Sephiroth?

Answer: Tseng

Tseng is the leader of the Turks but unfortunately you never have the chance to fight him. When you enter the Temple of the Ancients you find him grievously wounded saying "I've been had." You later see a scene showing Sephiroth striking him down. However he does not actually die as he appears in the film "Final Fantasy VII Advent Children" which is set two years after the end of the game.
3. "Final Fantasy VII" - You get to kill Heidegger and Scarlet.

Answer: True

You don't actually fight these two characters in a one on one fight so to speak. When you return to Midgar later in the game you are attacked by them in Scarlet's "sure thing" the Proud Clod. When you defeat the Proud Clod Heidegger and Scarlet both go down with it.
4. "Final Fantasy VII" - In the game there is a total of four weapons. Which one of these weapons can you NOT fight?

Answer: Sapphire Weapon

The three Weapons you can destroy are the Ultimate Weapon (which incidentally drops Cloud's Ultimate Weapon) the Emerald Weapon and the Ruby Weapon. As for Diamond Weapon you do fight and defeat it but the Sister Ray actually destroys it. You never get the chance to fight the Sapphire Weapon.
5. "Final Fantasy VII" - When you are on your way to the Underwater Reactor you have to pay the Shinra Soldier Guarding the lift to get to the town. How much does he charge you?

Answer: 10 Gil

You only need to pay this charge once to complete the game. However if you intend to enter Junon at other times (apart from the first time and the time mentioned above) you are required to pay the 10 Gil. This measly payment (probably gives you an idea how much Shinra Soldiers get paid!) however is no big deal in the grand scheme of things.
6. "Final Fantasy VIII" - In this game you can "Junction" characters that are equipped with one or more GF's (Guardian Forces) if they have drawn and stocked some magic. Spells can be Junctioned to various stats, Elemental properties and Status Effects. What is the total number of Status Effects that a character can be protected against at any one time?

Answer: 6

Some GF's allow you to junction magic to Status Attack and Status Defence. Some GF's can learn this ability by themselves others must be taught it by giving the GF a Status Guard item. Either way this will give the GF four ability slots for Status Defences. The reason you can be protected against six Status's when you have only four slots depends on what magic you Junction to these slots. If you Junction the magic Pain to one of the slots you will be protected against three status effects (Silence, Darkness and Poison) then you can also Junction another three types of status magic to be protected from making a total of six status effects you can be partially or fully protected from (this depends on what number of the spell you have stocked, this will determine the amount of defence).
7. "Final Fantasy VIII" - Squall is the only character in the game who uses a Gunblade.

Answer: False

Seifer is another Balamb Garden student who uses a Gunblade Weapon. However Squall becomes the first Gunblade "specialist" when he passes the SeeD exam. Later in the game in one of the "Laguna Dreams" Laguna uses a Gunblade to save himself from being killed by a Ruby Dragon.
8. "Final Fantasy VIII" - In the game you can play many people at a card game called Triple Triad. If you challenge Irvine to a game of cards in Balamb Garden what does he say?

Answer: "I only play with girls."

As for your party members you can only play two of them. Zell can be played outside the library and if you do the King of Cards sidequest you can play Quistis at cards. Irvine (obviously) knows how to play but won't play with you.
9. "Final Fantasy VIII" - When you are in Timber and getting ready to board the train to Galbadia Garden Zone gives his ticket to Quistis. Rinoa says he is fond of Naughty Magazines. What is the name of the magazine you can pick up and give to Zone later on in the game?

Answer: Girl Next Door

You can pick this up if you go in to Timber Maniacs and look through the stacks of magazines in the reception area. When you find the White SeeD Ship later on in the game you can give him the magazine and he gives you the rare Shiva Card in return.
10. "Final Fantasy VIII" - Quistis's strongest Blue Magic Limit Break is Shockwave Pulsar. What item do you learn this Limit Break from?

Answer: Dark Matter

To obtain a Dark Matter you must first obtain the Guardian Force Siren and 100 Curse Spikes. You then must get Siren up to level 100 and use her "Tool RF" ability to change the 100 Curse Spikes into the valuable Dark Matter. You probably won't be able to do this however till late on in the game as to gain large numbers of Curse Spikes is quite difficult on low levels and also levelling up Siren to level 100 will take quite a long time too.

The other items I mentioned do teach Quistis a Blue Magic.

A Black Hole teaches her Degenerator the Mystery Fluid will each her Acid and the (extremely rare) Power Generator will teach her Ray-Bomb.
11. "Final Fantasy IX" - Dagger (aka Princess Garnet) is one of two characters who can summon the powerful Eidolons. What is the most powerful Eidolon Dagger can learn to summon?

Answer: Ark

Ark can only be learnt from a Pumice item and there is only one way to obtain this. Firstly you must do a lot of digging with Choco (the Chocobo you meet in the Chocobo's Forest). If you do enough you can obtain two Pumice Pieces. After this you must make your way through Memoria until you reach a room that seems like it is underwater. If you then go to the far right of the screen (as you look at it) and walk down behind the large rock you are met by an enemy called Hades. If you defeat him he will then become a Synthesis Shop. Hades is the only place where you can synth the Pumice from the two Pumice Pieces to teach Dagger Ark. Hades is also the only place where you can synth the Tin Amour, Save the Queen and Ether items.
12. "Final Fantasy IX" - When Eiko cooks for you in Madain Sari she makes Rock Fisted Potato Stew with Fish.

Answer: True

Eiko is smitten when she meets Zidane and she takes Zidane and Co back to her home Madain Sari where she lives with a group of Moogles and cooks them all a meal. This dish is apparently her best even though (according to one of her Moogles) the last one tasted so bad he thought his Pompom was going to fall off!.

The meal will be different depending on the choices you make during the ATE's of "Eiko's Kitchen" of which there are three, this decides if Eiko's meal is a success or a flop!
13. "Final Fantasy IX" - You fight Zorn and Thorn twice in the game. In the second battle against them they merge together into an ugly looking monster. What is the name given to this monster?

Answer: Meltigemini

This fight against the two Jesters is much more difficult than your first encounter with them. The biggest problem is their Poison and Virus attacks. Any characters who are afflicted with Virus after the battle will not receive any AP.
14. "Final Fantasy IX" - What two characters take on the Earth Guardian in the Earth Shrine when you are trying to break the seal to enter Terra?

Answer: Zidane and Quina

This is the only fight you have to take control of during this episode. The Earth Guardian is quite strong but it is much easier if you equip your two characters with the Auto-Float ability. The other combinations are the correct ones (Freya and Amarant meet the Fire Guardian in the Fire Shrine, Steiner and Vivi take on the Wind Guardian in the Wind Shrine and Dagger and Eiko have to deal with the Water Guardian in the Water Shrine) but you do not have to fight and defeat the Guardians they meet.
15. "Final Fantasy IX" - Which of these boss enemies can be killed in a single attack?

Answer: Soulcage

You meet Soulcage at the bottom of the Iifa Tree. This boss is undead and is therefore weak against curative magic and items. If you throw a Phoenix Down (Revives downed party members) it will have the effect of death on Soulcage defeating him in one fell swoop! This is the easiest way to defeat him but he can be defeated by other means.

As for the incorrect answers an Epitaph is not a boss monster but can be killed instantly by using a soft item on it, Tahrka resides in Ipsens Castle and is a quite difficult enemy to defeat and Ark resides in Oelivert and this can also be a quite troublesome boss fight.
