Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Almost every installment of "Final Fantasy" had begun with the melody called "Prelude", and we were always rewarded with "Victory Fanfare" after a battle. Which title is the only game that does not include those staple tunes?

Answer: "Final Fantasy XIII"

I have researched and found no explanation for the missing music. However this game's music was not composed by Nobou Uematsu. In "Final Fantasy XII" we only heard the fanfare after Boss fights.
2. Who does not belong in this group?

Answer: Fang

Fang uses a spear while the other three use staves or wands. Also, Aerith, Yuna and Garnet rely more on magic and summons while Fang attacks and takes damage.
3. What boss must you fight to obtain the Masmune (that's how it was spelled in the game) in the first "Final Fantasy?"

Answer: Tiamat

During your second trip in the Temple of the Four Fiends, defeat Tiamat to reach the treasure box. Claim your prize!
4. In "Final Fantasy IV", where was Tellah born?

Answer: Mysidia

Tellah wanted revenge against Golbez for the death of his daughter, Anna. He also gave us one of the best quotes in gaming history, "You spoony Bard!"
5. Yoshinori Kitase wrote Aerith's death into "Final Fantasy VII" to cope with the passing of his mother.

Answer: False

Kitase had always planned on killing off one of the secondary characters to break away from the self sacrificing protagonist cliche. It was between Barrett and Aerith, and he chose the less obvious of the two and the one that he felt would fill us with a huge sense of loss.
6. In "Final Fantasy IX", while on Terra, Zidane is worn and losing faith, and pushing away his allies. What song is playing during this scene?

Answer: You Are Not Alone

Zidane had just learned he was created as a Genome, and his entire life was a lie. As he fights through Pandemonium, his friends aid him to assure him he is not alone.
7. Ultimecia was the first main female antagonist in the series when she debuted in "Final Fantasy VIII".

Answer: False

That title goes to Cloud Of Darkness in (America's) "Final Fantasy III". She emerges after the death of Xande to fight the warriors. Ultimecia is the second female main villain.
8. In "Final Fantasy IV", the Magus Sisters are bosses that sit atop what tower?

Answer: Zot Tower

In this game the sisters are the minions of Barbariccia. Golbez orders for the sisters to kill Cecil. They recur often in the series, and always use their Delta Attack.
9. In "Final Fantasy IX", who's theme song is titled "Loss Of Me"?

Answer: Beatrix

It is also known in Japan as "Rose of May". The song plays every time you fight Beatrix and when she and Steiner are protecting Alexandria.
10. In "Final Fantasy I" ("Origins" for the PSX) inside Elfheim's small graveyard, there's a tombstone with and epitaph for what Nintendo character?

Answer: Link

It reads "Here Lies Link". Located in a Elf town (Link was an Elf). All the other headstones are blank.
11. How many names does Garnet have (including her royal title) in "Final Fantasy IX"?

Answer: Three

Her Royal Title is Garnet til Alexandros XVII, she chooses to go by Dagger after asking Zidane to kidnap her, then she learns her true name is Sarah when she visits Madain Sari. There she realizes she was born in that town, and is not a Princess but a Summoner.
12. Caladbolg, Tidus's legendary weapon in "Final Fantasy X", translates into "to consume all" according to which mythology?

Answer: Celtic

Caladbolg is believed to be the inspiration for Excalibur. King Arthur's sword was first called Caladfwlch, a Welsh word derived from Calad-Bolg meaning "Hard Lightning". Then it became the Caliburn and eventually Excalibur.
13. There's a Cid in every "Final Fantasy" game, and he is almost always an ally. Which Cid was the first villain and boss in the series?

Answer: Cidolfus Demen Bunansa

This version of Cid is Balthier's father in "Final Fantasy XII". He tried to make Balthier a Judge, but Balthier refused, and fled to become a sky pirate.
14. In what year was the original "Final Fantasy" released for the NES?

Answer: 1987

Created by Hironobu Sakaguchi, who explained at the time Square was on the verge of financial ruin. If the game didn't sell well he would have been forced to leave the industry, which is why he named the game his "Final Fantasy".
15. All the main characters in "Final Fantasy XIII", including Dajh and Serah, were branded by the same fal'Cie.

Answer: False

With the exception of Dajh, they were all branded by the fal'Cie Anima, even Fang and Vanille. Dajh was branded by the fal'Cie Kujata.
