Armando Mendez confronts Victor Vance in his mansion during the mission "Light My Pyre" in "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories" armed with a flamethrower, prepared to take down Vic. Vic is able to kill Armando, but he is not fast enough to save his love interest Louise Cassidy-Williams.

When the protagonist of "Grand Theft Auto: Advance" decides to work with Cisco he engages in a shootout with King Courtney, although Mike is victorious in the shootout, King Courtney is not killed, and flees the city. After betraying Carl Johnson in "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" Lance "Ryder" Wilson flees a shootout between the Mountain Cloud Boys and the San Fierro Rifa. T-Bone Mendez is killed, and Ryder jumps into the water, swimming to a boat and taking off. Carl pursues, and kills Ryder while in his boat.

Jimmy Pegorino also flees in a boat in the "Deal" ending of "Grand Theft Auto IV", however he makes it to Happiness Island and is killed after he leaves the boat.
