Question 1 of 10
1. Having a look at where it all began - Nacht Der Untoten. Night of the Undead in German, this map would end up influencing zombie games for almost a decade through multiple titles. As iconic as it was, it was also about as basic as they come. Up until "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3", Nacht Der Untoten was the smallest map made. How many rooms were on this map? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. All throughout Zombies history, every map had at least one Wonder Weapon. Wonder Weapons were weapons with a fantasy element to them (meaning they didn't actually exist in real life) and were usually noticeably better than the non-Wonder Weapon set in the game. Only one player in a team could receive the given Wonder Weapon in most cases, and most Wonder Weapons were obtained from the Mystery Box. What was the Wonder Weapon on Nacht Der Untoten? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. A common strategy to survive for as long as possible on this map was to take every player on the team, join together in the Grenade room, and camp there for as long as possible. This strategy was dependent on players avoiding doing one thing, which would essentially ruin the strategy. You would be very likely to draw your team's ire if you did this, deliberately or not. What was the most important thing to avoid doing for this strategy to work? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Until "Black Ops 2" introduced the Die Rise map, Nacht Der Untoten was the only map in all of Zombies to have a sniper rifle purchasable off the wall, in the Scoped KAR98K. How many points did it cost to buy? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Every map in Zombies had a hidden song which could be played once per game by doing something unusual in the map. In Nacht Der Untoten, Kevin Sherwood's instrumental masterpiece "Undone" could be accessed. How could the players play this song? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Wall weapons were a key element of the game, and important to make use of in the early and middle stages of the game. In the starter room, the Kar98K and which other weapon were presented to the player via wallbuy? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Overall, how many wallbuys were there on Nacht Der Untoten? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. When every player on the map had been killed, a theme would be played in the background, accompanying loud, evil laughter. What song was this? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. What were the names of the four characters that players play as in this map? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. How many windows were there in the map that the zombies could have used to breach the building? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Four

You have the starter room (the room the player or players spawned in), the Mystery Box room (which, as the name would suggest, held the Mystery Box), and upstairs two rooms in this broken down building - one with the Scoped KAR98K wallbuy, and the other holding the ability to buy Grenades off the Wall. Each room had at least one wallbuy, and all except the Grenade room had multiple windows that zombies would try to access.

In the early stages of the game, it was important to maintain barricades on these windows, as to avoid being overwhelmed by zombies.

In the later stages of the game, however, this was a pointless endeavor; the undead would either find a way in because there were too many windows to monitor, or they would find a way in because you hadn't opened up enough rooms to access useful enough weapons to keep them out.

Answer: Ray Gun

At the time of the map's release, the Wunderwaffe DG2 did not yet exist, ruling it out as an option. The PTRS-41 was only obtainable from the Mystery Box, but was a normal sniper rifle, not a Wonder Weapon. The Barracuda was the Pack-a-Punched version of the MG42. While the MG42 was available via the Mystery Box, Pack-a-Punch was not. Even still, Pack-a-Punched weapons were not inherently Wonder Weapons as defined by the game. The Ray Gun was a marvelous weapon for its time; an instant one-shot kill until Round 20, possessing lots of ammunition which allowed it to sustain the player wielding it, and being very light and affording maximum mobility. The only drawback to the Ray Gun was that it dealt splash damage, meaning that the player would hurt themselves with it if their target was too close to them. A good idea was to pair the Ray Gun with a weapon which could handle zombies closer up, such as the M1897 Trench Gun, FG42, or MG42.

It was a commonly held sentiment that the Ray Gun was at its peak usability in "World at War". This sentiment was derived from the fact that the Ray Gun received no upgrades and didn't benefit from any of the mechanical changes in any of the zombie modes in the first three "Black Ops". It didn't benefit from modified Double Tap Root Beer (which made weapons game-wide more powerful), it didn't get any more powerful when Pack-a-Punched, and its power actually would get reduced transitioning from "Black Ops" to "Black Ops 2"; this transition made it so that it no longer one-shot killed its target after Round 12, instead of Round 20. When one considers that many more useful Wonder Weapons would enter the fray in future iterations of the Zombies mode, it is easy to see why the Ray Gun was at its best in this game.

Answer: Clear the debris linking the starter room to the Grenade room

In the grenade room, if you did not clear the debris linking it to the Starting room, the zombies only had two ways they could get to the player(s). There was one window zombies could breach to enter the room, and the Scoped KAR98K room linked itself to the Grenade room, allowing other zombies to access it through this room.

In a team of 4, you could easily assign two or three players to protect the Grenade room by fighting zombies who entered it from the Scoped KAR98K room, while the other one or two guarded the window and denied the undead access from there. If you cleared the debris linking the starting room to the Grenade room, the zombies now had a third, annoying way they could get to the party.

The big issue with this was that the zombies went up a spiral staircase if granted access this way, which made them difficult to shoot down before they got into the room. Often, this would force the entire team to all go into the far corner of the room and defend themselves. One player in this scenario had the Ray Gun, and forcing close quarters combat jeopardized their ability to make optimal use of it.

This wasn't particularly difficult until after Round 20, when the Ray Gun stopped one-shot killing, and then things became nigh impossible for the team to survive much longer. When you only had two avenues to monitor, one of them being an extremely small area, sustained survival became a lot easier. Therefore, it was borderline mandatory to leave the debris linking the starter room to the Grenade room alone.
4. Until "Black Ops 2" introduced the Die Rise map, Nacht Der Untoten was the only map in all of Zombies to have a sniper rifle purchasable off the wall, in the Scoped KAR98K. How many points did it cost to buy?

Answer: 5000

This ludicrous price, combined with the overall mediocrity of the weapon, often caused players to ignore the wallbuy. Usually, players would arm themselves with Mystery Box weapons, or would buy the BAR and/or M1897 Trench Gun off the Wall- cheaper weapons which were more effective than the Scoped KAR98K. To add insult to injury, the Scoped KAR98K could be obtained from the Mystery Box, a box which only cost 950 points to use. Finally, the PTRS-41 was by far and away the best sniper rifle in the map, and it could also be acquired from the Mystery Box.
5. Every map in Zombies had a hidden song which could be played once per game by doing something unusual in the map. In Nacht Der Untoten, Kevin Sherwood's instrumental masterpiece "Undone" could be accessed. How could the players play this song?

Answer: Shooting or tossing a grenade at every explosive barrel on the map

In front of every single window on the map, there were two to three explosive barrels. Pragmatically, these could be shot or blown up when zombies got near them, as an alternate way to kill them. Beyond that, if a player blew up every barrel on the map, Kevin Sherwood's amazing instrumental "Undone" would begin to play.
6. Wall weapons were a key element of the game, and important to make use of in the early and middle stages of the game. In the starter room, the Kar98K and which other weapon were presented to the player via wallbuy?

Answer: M1 Carbine

The Colt M1911 was the weapon the player started the game with, receiving it for free. Off the wall, the M1 Carbine and Kar98K were readily available. The Kar98K cost 200 points; the M1 Carbine was 600. Neither was useful beyond Round 5, and alternatives should have been sought as soon as possible, though they were both better than the Colt M1911 and could be useful placeholders, allowing the player to obtain enough points to access the Mystery Box or a better wall weapon.
7. Overall, how many wallbuys were there on Nacht Der Untoten?

Answer: Nine

You had the Kar98K, M1 Carbine, Double Barreled Shotgun, Sawn Off Double Barreled Shotgun, Thompson, BAR, Scoped Kar98K, M1897 Trench Gun, and Grenades. In a survey conducted shortly before Verruckt was released, it was found that players who answered more commonly purchased the Thompson and Trench Gun combined than the other six all put together.

This was likely because the Thompson was the best wall weapon for earning lots of points, as a fast firing weapon with lots of ammo, and the Trench Gun delivered one-shot kills until Round 15 and had lots of ammo with big clips.
8. When every player on the map had been killed, a theme would be played in the background, accompanying loud, evil laughter. What song was this?

Answer: Lullaby of a Dead Man

In the Verruckt map, this theme was played as a song in its entirety. In the Nacht Der Untoten map, though, only a brief, several second instrumental was heard before the screen faded to black, and the players were returned to the start menu, where they could play another game of Nacht Der Untoten or another map.
9. What were the names of the four characters that players play as in this map?

Answer: They don't have identities

The four of Richtofen, Dempsey, Nikolai and Takeo (referred to as the Ultimis group) would not be introduced until Verruckt. Stuhlinger, Russman, Misty and Martlon Johnson wouldn't come into the fray until "Black Ops 2". Finally, The Weasel, Billy Handsome, Finn O'Leary and Sal were guest stars with famous voice actors who only appeared in the Mob of the Dead map in "Black Ops 2." In Nacht Der Untoten, there were no voice actors, nor were there any "characters" in the conventional sense - you were just four soldiers holding up in an abandoned German stronghold.
10. How many windows were there in the map that the zombies could have used to breach the building?

Answer: Twelve

You had five in the starter room, three in the Mystery Box room, three in the Scoped Kar98K room, and one in the Grenade room. Early on, keeping windows in one or two rooms was doable and advised, but in the later stages of the game, this became pointless to try and maintain.
