Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Unlike past main series "Pokemon" games, "Sun & Moon" does not have gym leaders. Instead which characters are similar in nature to gym leaders?

Answer: Trial captains

There are seven trial captains: Ilima, Lana, Kiawe, Mallow, Sophocles, Acerola and Mina. After completing each captain's trial, the player receives a Z stone corresponding to that trial captain's preferred type. Other Z stones can be found scattered throughout Alola. Like most gym leaders, each trial captain specializes in a type.

However, trial captains are not battled at first. Typically, the player completes a trial by venturing into a cave or similar place and battles a special, powered up wild Pokemon.
2. These games saw the introduction of regional forms. Which of the following first generation Pokemon did NOT receive an Alolan form in these games?

Answer: Dragonite

Alolan Marowak is a ghost-fire type, probably in reference to the first games when the player had to defeat the ghost of a Marowak in Lavender Town. Alolan Ninetals is an ice-fairy type and Alolan Sandslash is an ice-steel type. These Alolan forms have totally different typing, appearance, move sets and abilities from their original generation counterparts. Other Pokemon that received an Alolan form are Exeggutor, Raichu and Raticate. The only way to have an original form of these Alolan form Pokemon is to transfer it over from a past game.

Dragonite, however, did not get a new form and remained a dragon-flying type.
3. Which Pokemon lives in the player's Pokedex?

Answer: Rotom

The Pokedex in these games is called the Rotom Dex because of the Rotom that lives inside it. Throughout the main quest, Rotom will give the player clues on where to proceed. When the player catches a new Pokemon, Rotom will give him or her information about it. The Rotom Dex also comes equipped with a world map the player can read on the main screen.
4. Some old Pokemon received new abilities in "Sun & Moon". In the case of the popular Gengar, it lost the ability Levitate for which other ability?

Answer: Cursed Body

Gengar used to have Levitate, which gave it immunity to ground type moves, which Gengar is weak to. With Cursed Body, there is a 30% chance the attacking Pokemon's move will be disabled when it hits Gengar. The change in ability was not welcomed by many competitive trainers since Gengar's immunity to ground type moves was seen as one of its top benefits in competitive battling matches.
5. Which of the following Pokemon can be ridden by using the Poke Ride feature?

Answer: Charizard

Since HM field moves were eliminated in "Sun & Moon", they were replaced by rideable Pokemon. Charizard's Poke Ride feature is essentially the Fly HM from past games. Charizard can be flown to almost anywhere in Alola for quick transportation. Other Poke Ride Pokemon are Lapras and Sharpedo who replace Surf and Machamp who replaces Strength.
6. The Pokemon Day Care Center, where Pokemon can breed, is located where in "Sun & Moon"?

Answer: Paniola Ranch

The Day Care Center is located in Paniola Ranch, near the beginning of the game. Unlike past day care centers, the one in Alola will not raise the level of any Pokemon deposited there. It is strictly for breeding Pokemon which can be done to achieve improved stats and inherit rare egg moves.
7. Upon becoming the Alola Pokemon League Champion, who will the player fight if he or she defeats the Elite Four a second time?

Answer: Any of a variety of challengers

After becoming champion and defeating the Elite four again, the player can be challenged by any number of randomly selected foes. These foes include Molyane, Hau, Professor Kukui and Hapu. This is because the player will become the league's first champion and other trainers will try to dethrone him or her.

After the first time the player defeats the Elite Four, the player must then defeat Professor Kukui, however he is not the champion.
8. Which legendary Pokemon introduced in "X & Y" can be recreated in Alola by connecting enough cells and cores that are scattered through the region?

Answer: Zygarde

Zygarde cells and cores can be collected and used to build a Zygarde in a few forms. New forms are the 10% and 50% forms. Once all 100 pieces of Zygarde are collected, the player can create one Zygarde with an ability called Power Construct, which allows the Zygarde to switch between its different forms.

The Zygarde cells and cores have set locations but some must be found at night and some during the day.
9. Which new Pokemon introduced in these games can only be found in the wild hiding under piles of berries near berry trees?

Answer: Crabrawler

Crabrawler is a fighting-type Pokemon that looks like a crab. It evolves into Crabominable when leveled up on Mount Lanakina. A player can tell that a Crabrawler is hiding under the berry pile because the pile will usually be much larger in size than normal. Catching or defeating the Crabrawler is required in order to collect the berries.
10. Which town on Ula'ula Island is completely taken over by Team Skull?

Answer: Po Town

Po Town seems to be the Team Skull stronghold in the region. The entire town is completely rundown and covered with graffiti. The player must battle several grunts and defeat Guzma in the Shady House to win back a kidnapped Yungoos. Even after Team Skull's defeat in Po Town, the town is still overrun by them and is not cleaned up by the local police.
