Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Cloud Strife

Answer: Final Fantasy VII

One of the first "Final Fantasy" games I played, and still a favourite, Cloud is the main character in "Final Fantasy VII". He also appears in "Kingdom Hearts", "Super Smash Bros" and several other non-"Final Fantasy" RPG games. "Final Fantasy VII" was the first to be released in Europe and first to use 3D computer graphics (according to Wikipedia) and follows Cloud and his allies as they work to stop Sephiroth destroying the world.
2. Viconia De Vir

Answer: Baldur's Gate

Viconia De Vir is a sub-earth dwelling elf roaming the land with the sole purpose of survival after fleeing her homeland. She's considered evil, but can join the player's group under the right circumstances and be a valuable team member. Characters in "Baldur's Gate" follow the main player in searching for the source of an iron shortage throughout the land uncovering deeper conspiracies along the way. Basically, the life of the main character is in danger (what good is a RPG without danger to the main character?) and he must travel back to his homeland, with his allies, to do a bit of killing, get captured, then escape again. Of course it isn't always easy and the path the characters travel depend on choices made by the main character throughout the game.
3. Luigi

Answer: Paper Mario

Using Mario as the correct option for this game would have been a bit of a giveaway, however Mario is a main character in this game as well. Luigi and Mario must work together to save Princess Peach from Bowser after a kidnapping and subsequent invasion of Star Haven. Star Haven is the home of the Star Spirits that Mario must retrieve and use to negate the power of Bowser's Star Rod which will enable Peach to walk free.
4. Albert Cole

Answer: Fallout

"Fallout" is set in a world that would be ours except for somewhere between World War II and the Apollo program the timeline deviated. A global shortage of petroleum started Resource Wars between several nations eventually causing nuclear war a resulting in survivors living in fallout shelters, called Vaults.

This game centres on the characters needing to find a replacement chip for the computer that controls the water supply for their own vault but they have to defend themselves along the way from raiders and other bad guys trying to stop their progress.
5. Erdrick

Answer: Dragon Quest

The backstory to "Dragon Quest" concerns Erdrick and his Ball of Light. After restoring light to the land, Erdrick handed the Ball of Light to the king for safekeeping. Alefgard (the land to which light was restored) was at peace until the Dragonlord, upon a big red dragon, attacked the castle and stole the ball. Monsters appeared in the ensuing darkness and started to destroy the land. Erdrick, being the hero he is, offered to help restore the land to light and peace, and then the gameplay and story begins...
6. Commander Shepard

Answer: Mass Effect

Spectre Saren Arterius (bad guy) controls an army of machines (called Geth) in the hope of conquering the galaxy. Shepard's quest is to stop the bad guy, but it turns out there's an even badder guy (Sovereign) who controls both Saren and a whole lot of Reapers (more machines). Every 50,000 years the Reapers are sent to purge all life in the galaxy, bad news for everyone in this game, the first of several "Mass Effect" games.
7. Baron DeMordrey

Answer: Sacred

Field Marshall Baron DeMordrey - good guy or bad guy? You need his help to clear Ancaria from Sakkara Demons summonsed by Shaddar (ruthless, bitter and lusting for power), but is the Field Marshall there for the good of the people or does he have his own plans for ruling the land? The main character and his companions must slash and think their way through this intriguing story in order to return peace and prosperity to the land.
8. Sora

Answer: Kingdom Hearts

Sora's homeland is being destroyed by Heartless (shadows) and he must work to rid the world of these nasty little characters and find his friends Riku and Kairi. With characters from both Disney and Final Fantasy, this game can easily cross over into many different audiences. King Mickey (Mickey Mouse) sends his trusty mage (Donald Duck) and his knight (Goofy) to Traverse Town to find the "key" to dealing with the increasing darkness within his kingdom. Donald and Goofy meet Sora and the adventure begins.
9. Alester Sarwyck

Answer: Game of Thrones

Following the storyline of George RR Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice" (also adapted for TV), "Game of Thrones" switches between the characters of Alester Sarwyck (knight and heir to a lordly house ruled by the Lannisters) and Mors Westford (ranger from the Night's Watch and previously a knight for the Lannisters).

In true "Game of Thrones" style there's death, intrigue, betrayal and a very involved tale or two resulting in one of four possible endings to the storyline.
10. Jack Carver

Answer: Far Cry

Jack Carver, former US Army Special Forces operative, ends up stranded after the boat he was on was destroyed by mercenaries. In this story, there's a woman involved - a journalist he was escorting whilst on the boat. Jack must battle genetically altered beasts, a kidnapping, a volcano and the threat of genetic mutation to himself to find the journalist (who happens to be an undercover CIA agent) and shut down the genetic experiments on the island, as well as those in charge of them.
