Ashton can a use wide variety of killer moves such as Tri Ace which can be found in the Cave of Trials. You can undertake a certain sidequest to try and kill the dragons that have bound themselves to Ashton. This allows you to get some good items early on in the game.

Dias used to live in the quiet village of Arlia until bandits attacked him and his family. After that he traveled the world looking for places to test his strength and keep bumping into Claude and his party in different locations around the world such as Mars Village, Lacour, etc. Dias can only join your party if Rena is the controlled character.

Chisato joins your party after she follows you in the Cave of Red Crystal and loses her I.D. card, which you return to her in Central City. She can help you (whether you have her in the team or not) with the hidden information sidequest within North City's Library.

Leon lives in the town Lacour where he does science experiments for the king. Leon also created the weapon Lacour Hope which he tried to use when the monsters invaded the continent of Lacour and the invasion of the continent of Eluria which failed miserably. Leon can only join your party if your controlled character is Claude. Leon's ultimate spell, Extinction, can only be found in the Cave of Trials inside a chest.

Opera is one of the best optional characters to tackle flying enemies and also has Healing Star which can become one of the more useful healing moves in the game. If you have opera in the party you can trigger an extra scene at the end of the Hoffman Ruins, which allows you to get a new party member.

Indalecio is the leader of an evil organisation called the Ten Wise Men. Indalecio can become the hardest boss in the game if you partake in a certain sidequest which removes his limiter, meaning that he will get more powerful as you level up.

Answer: Noel

Noel is a good support character who can cast both offensive and defensive spells. Noel used to be connected to the Ten Wise Men, but now he lives alone near a nature preserve to tries to atone for all the thing he's ever done with them.

Precies is a good offensive character who can join your party instead of Bowman in the town of Linga. You can also create the Magician's Hand early on in the game if you get her machinery skill high enough.

Rena can become one of the best support characters in the game with healing like Faery Light, Raise Dead, Angel Feather, etc. Rena is also one of the main characters that you can control in the game.

Claude is the best Attacker character in the game. He is also the only character in the game to fight with two different types of weapons: the phase gun and sword. Claude is also the other main character that you can control in the game.
