Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Leader of the Hunter of Hunters covenant, this awe-inspiring NPC wields the Blade of Mercy. Who is it?

Answer: Eileen the Crow

Eileen has inarguably the most moxie out of any NPC in the game, deliberately designed to make the player feel weak and inferior compared to her. It's for this reason that her questline, particularly the ending, is so satisfying. Finding Eileen down and bleeding out at the Grand Cathedral, the player must confront the Bloody Crow of Cainhurst within the building.

This is essentially the game prompting the player to defeat a character so strong even Eileen couldn't handle him, instilling immense amounts of triumph when the player does eventually claim victory.
2. Member of the Executioners covenant, this NPC is a helpful source of lore based information. He can also be summoned to help fight the Cleric Beast and the Blood-Starved Beast. Who is this?

Answer: Alfred

Alfred may not deal much damage, but what he lacks in offense he makes up for in defense, as he is remarkably tanky. He will very likely survive the Blood-Starved Beast fight as long as the player is actually helping him and isn't letting him try to solo the beast.

He can straight up solo the Cleric Beast as well. When first found in the Cathedral Ward, he can answer important questions about the Healing Church, the ongoing scourge of beasts, the history of the hunt and more.
3. The only NPC summon in the game with access to A Call Beyond and Blacksky Eye, which of the following is one of two bosses Damian of Mensis can be summoned for?

Answer: Rom the Vacuous Spider

When deployed, Damian will happily stroll up to Rom or one of her spider minions and lay waste to them with one of the aforementioned arcane spells. He has, bar none, the highest offensive potential of any NPC summon by a million miles. As it happens, he is also quite fragile and is likely to die without extreme player intervention.

However, such protection may prove worth it due to his offensive prowess.
4. The operator of the Hunter's Dream hub world, this centralizing NPC has a high chance to become the player's final boss fight. Who is this?

Answer: Gehrman the First Hunter

Once the player has defeated Mergo's Wet Nurse, they'll return to the Hunter's Dream where The Doll will tell them to go speak to Gehrman. Once approached, Gehrman will congratulate the player on a successful hunt and will offer to mercy kill them, so that they may finally awaken from the nightmare. If the player rejects Gehrman's offer, he will try to forcefully mercy kill them, becoming the final boss of the game in the process.

The only exception would be if the player has obtained three Umbilical Cords, at which point the Moon Presence will appear to attack the player after they defeat Gehrman.
5. By far the hardest NPC hunter fight in the game, the Bloody Crow of Cainhurst is a true test of a player's mettle. He will, provided the player has done Eileen the Crow's questline, be available to fight after the player defeats Rom the Vacuous Spider. Where will he appear?

Answer: The Grand Cathedral

Bloody Crow of Cainhurst is ridiculously overbearing. Even a max level character will be killed in two swift hits off the unbridled might of his Chikage. He's a big threat at a distance as well, as his Repeater Pistol does only slightly less damage than the Chikage, and he gets unlimited ammo to boot. He is no pushover defensively, with just over 2,000 hit points, packed with two Blood Vials and having access to the Old Hunter's Bone. The player will find it hard to hit him, and when they do, it will not do much damage.

In order to be able to fight the Bloody Crow od Cainhurst, the player must have completed Eileen the Crow's questline before defeating Rom the Vacuous Spider. If they beat Rom before finishing Eileen's questline, the player will fight Eileen at the Grand Cathedral instead of Bloody Crow of Cainhurst.
6. Proving to be a big help against Ludwig the Holy Blade, Valtr the Beast Eater is also the leader of a covenant. What covenant does he lead?

Answer: The League

In order to be able to summon Valtr for help with Ludwig, the player must visit him and consume three Vermin while he can see them do so. Upon doing so, he will give the player his helmet and announce his resignation from The League, handing leadership to the player.

Valtr is incredibly useful against Ludwig, as he does a lot of damage, has the bulk to take many hits, and comes with a few Blood Vials to boot. He can't solo Ludwig, but given that Ludwig is arguably the hardest boss in the game, it would be silly to expect him to be able to. That said, players struggling with Ludwig will frequently bring Valtr along for backup, and for good reason.
7. The door to the Forbidden Woods is guarded by an unknown person, who sits on the opposite end and approves or denies entry based on if the player knows the password. When the player gets the password and initially enters, they'll find this mysterious person to be in a very weird state. What has happened with this individual?

Answer: They are dead

Behind the door lies nothing other than a single corpse lying in a chair. Given that the corpse was heavily decayed, it is likely that it had been long dead. Unfortunately, the game provides no context for what has taken place here, so it's anyone's guess as to who this person was and what could've happened to them.
8. One of five NPCs the player can send to Cathedral Ward to seek refuge is Arianna. Arianna will provide the player with an item which is required to obtain a specific ending, but she only does it if the player keeps her alive until defeating Micolash, Host of the Nightmare. What item does Arianna give the player in this regard?

Answer: One Third of an Umbilical Cord

Predictably, the player must find all three pieces of the Umbilical Cord to obtain the "Childhood's Beginning" ending. One of three Umbilical Cords comes from Arianna. Arianna can die in a handful of different ways the player will need to be wary of. The first is accepting an Arianna's Blood Vial from her while in the presence of Adella the Nun. Doing so will drive Adella into a fit of jealousy, prompting her to murder Arianna. Adella must either be preemptively killed by the player, never sent to Cathedral Ward in the first place, the player must refrain from accepting an Arianna's Blood Vial, or Adella must be killed by the Suspicious Man.

The Suspicious Man can also end up killing Arianna. He can be dealt with similarly to Adella by the player's hand. If Arianna is protected until defeating Micolash, Host of the Nightmare, the player can travel to the Oedon Chapel.

There, they'll find Arianna has turned into a Celestial Emissary; killing her here will cause her to drop One-Third of an Umbilical Cord.
9. This NPC is the first summon the player can access. He can help them travel through Central Yharnam, and he can then help them fight the Cleric Beast. He later becomes the first mandatory boss fight the player encounters. Who is this?

Answer: Father Gascoigne

Father Gascoigne stands at a towering seven feet tall, noticeably taller than the player. His demeanor complements his simple but effective fighting style, as he packs a simple Hunter Axe and Hunter's Blunderbuss but is very effective in using them. These same weapons are also wielded by him when the player encounters him as a boss fight.

Here, the player witnesses Gascoigne finally being driven fully mad by the hunt, as he has savagely murdered his wife and threatens to do the same with the player.
10. When entering Old Yharnam, the player won't get far before a man will warn them to leave the city, lest he fire on the player with a large Gatling Gun with a bird's eye view. What is the name of this NPC?

Answer: Djura the Retired Hunter

The player will need to approach the building Djura is positioned in, weaving and wading behind the cover of ruined buildings and small structures. Once they've arrived, however, the job is hardly done as Djura is a formidable opponent. He wields the Stake Driver and a Ludwig's Rifle, and he hits really hard with them.

However, as he is manning his Gatling Gun, he sits dangerously close to a ledge that is lethally high. A common strategy to easily defeat him is to climb up to where he is and simply start spamming gunfire, with the hopes that he will get staggered and fall to his doom.
