If you quickly run into the hole in the wall the Deer Haunter created when it first spawned, you could easily get the advantage and kill him right away. Just run far enough back into the hole and shoot away. He can't reach you so you can win with just a few shots from your shot gun.

However if you do not have the shotgun (or any other kind of gun for that matter) and you only have either the baseball bat or you fists, beating him there can become pretty difficult because using those weapons require you to be up close and this makes him able hit hit you.

This also gives you the benefit if you are playing in the two player story mode because the Deer Haunter would be too busy trying to get you in the hole that player two can just stand in one place outside of the hole and shot him from there which gives you the advantage at both angles.

This also enables you to kill him much more quickly.
