"The time is now for strong leadership." This slogan was used by Ronald Reagan when running against incumbent president Jimmy Carter. The slogan "They understand what peace demands" was used by Nixon in 1960 when running against JFK. "Vote like your whole world depended on it" was used by Nixon in 1968 when Nixon ran against Hubert Humphrey. "Now more than ever" was used in 1972 when Nixon was seeking re-election against Senator George McGovern.

George H.W. Bush won the presidency as vice-president under the Reagan administration. Richard Nixon ran for president in 1960 when he was vice-president under the Eisenhower administration but lost to JFK, so when he ran again in 1968 he was out of politics. In 1972 Richard Nixon was seeking re-election against senator of South Dakota, George McGovern. When Nixon resigned Gerald Ford became president so when Ford ran against Carter in 1976, Ford was an incumbent president, Carter won that election. In 1980 when Carter was the incumbent candidate, he ran against Governor of California Ronald Reagan. Reagan won. Reagan then won re-election against former vice-president Walter Mondale.

In addition, Roosevelt and Hoover, Roosevelt's following elections, and then Truman's election.
