Answer: Tata Airlines

Tata Airlines was a division of The Tata Sons. Founded in 1932 by J.R.D Tata, this airline first began as a post service. Post WWII, it changed its name to 'Air India'. In 1948, 49% of the company was acquired by the government of India by force and another 2% was purchased.

In turn, the airline was allowed to operate international flights. It is now owned by the government and is the flag carrier of India.

This airline was founded by 'The Sahara Parivar' of India owned by millionaire Subrata Roy as 'Air Sahara'. On April 16 2007, Jet Airways took over the airlines completely by paying a total amount of INR3850 crores. Later, this airlines was renamed as Jet Lite, and functioned as the low cost division of Jet Airways. Its hub is Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Founded in April 1992 as an air taxi, this company later bought Air Sahara which is now known as Jet Lite. Its HQ is in Mumbai and it has a fleet of over a hundred aircraft.
9. For which airline did former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi fly?

Answer: Air India

Before going into politics, Rajiv Gandhi trained as a professional pilot and took up a job with Air India in 1970. Ten years later, his younger brother Sanjay died (ironically) in a plane crash, and Rajiv was persuaded to follow him into politics, as a means of continuing his family's political dynasty.

He served as Prime Minister of India (1984-89), but was assassinated by a suicide bomber in 1991.
10. What was the original name of Chhatarpati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai?

Answer: Santacruz Airport

The airport was originally named by the British after the area in which it is situated, as RAF Santacruz. In 1980 it was extended to the northeast and renamed Sahar International Airport. In 1999 it was renamed again, after the famous Maratha ruler Shivaji.
