Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Only pay for what you need."

Answer: Liberty Mutual

This is a particularly annoying slogan, because it implies that other insurance companies charge you for coverage you don't need.
2. "We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two."

Answer: Farmers

Farmers started using this slogan in 2016. In this ad campaign, the company emphasizes that it has covered all kinds of bizarre misfortunes. The spokesman in these ads is J. K. Simmons, perhaps best known for playing Dr. Emil Skoda in the NBC series, "Law and Order".
3. "When insurance is affordable, it's surprisingly painless."

Answer: Esurance

Esurance is a company funded in 1999 to sell insurance over the internet. The company was purchased in 2011 by Allstate.
4. "Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen per cent or more."

Answer: Geico

Geico markets its products directly to the consumer rather than through agents. Much of the money it saves by not using agents is spent on saturation advertising.
5. "Name your own price."

Answer: Progressive

Progressive's "name your own price" ad campaign, with Flo as its spokesperson, began in January of 2008. Flo's emergence as the star of the ads was accidental, in that the company took a look at her performance in that first ad and decided she had something special and kept her on. In the ten years after that first ad, Progressive's business more than doubled.
6. "Are you in good hands?"

Answer: Allstate

Allstate's "good hands" advertising campaign dates back to 1950, when a sales manager rushed home after learning of his daughter's illness, and his wife informed him that their daughter was "in good hands" with their doctor. As of 2020, this was the longest-running tagline for a paid advertising campaign in history.
7. "What you're made of, we're made for."

Answer: USAA

USAA markets its products to members of the U.S. military and their families. It is not a corporation, so it has members, rather than shareholders. The tagline quoted is designed to emphasize the connection to the military.
8. "Own a piece of the rock."

Answer: Prudential

Prudential is an American life insurance company which has used the "piece of the rock" slogan since the 1970s. The "rock" refers to the Rock of Gibraltar, which appears in its logo. It is unrelated to the UK life insurance company of the same name.
9. Without it, no insurance is complete."

Answer: AFLAC

This is one slogan which actually communicates something, as AFLAC provides supplemental coverage which pays cash to supplement your normal coverage.
10. "Like a good neighbor, ______ _____ is there."

Answer: State Farm

The "good neighbor" jingle was written by Barry Manilow in 1971. In a famous case arising in Alabama, an insured sued State Farm for fraud, claiming that the insurance company broke its promise to him to be a "good neighbor". The Eleventh Circuit ruled that the good neighbor claim was mere "puffery", and was not a statement of material fact which could be relied on to support a fraud claim.
