Answer: Jasper Newton Daniel

The youngest of ten children, Jasper Newton Daniel was given the nickname "Jack" when he was young, this would become the name we all know him by. Mystery is abundant in the world of Jack Daniel, starting with a courthouse fire destroying any record of his birth, and a legacy left with many unanswered questions like "What does the No.7 stand for?"...

Answer: Dan Call

Dan Call hired Jack at the age of seven to work in a store he owned. The Reverend later sold Mr Daniel his still after his wife insisted he focus more on his congregation.

Mr Daniel became the owner of his first still at the age of thirteen and was taught to distill whiskey the Tennessee way by a slave who belonged to its previous owner.

One day, after coming in early for work and forgetting the combination, in an outburst of frustration, Mr Daniel kicked his office safe which broke his big toe. This led to an infection and he eventually died in 1911 from blood poisoning.

As his health deteriorated, in 1907 Jack handed over the distillery to Lem Motlow, the son of Jack's sister Finetta, and his cousin Dick. Dick sold his share to Lem. Known as a good person and talented businessman, Lem restarted the distillery after the end of prohibition.

Answer: The Lincoln County Process

The Lincoln County Process was named as such because Tennessee Whisky coming from Lincoln County was considered the very best at the time. Filtering their whiskey through sugar maple charcoal gave the liquor a unique taste.

In 1998 at the age of 82, Ol' Blue Eyes passed away in Los Angeles, California. On May 20th 1998 he was buried with his Old No.7 at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City after a funeral attended by over 400 people.
