This quote is from Thomas Jefferson's First Inaugural Address on March 4, 1801, and it pretty much sums up the libertarian philosophy.

Answer: Barry Goldwater

Written by Karl Hess, this line proved most popular to Goldwater Republicans, which were basically libertarians.

Answer: Benjamin Franklin

One of Franklin's best quotes, seemingly more appropriate every day.

Mencken is one of the most unique and clever voices in the history of political punditry. At times offensive, clever, and brilliant, he is one of the most quotable men to pick up a pen.

This is one of my favorite quotes, because it describes the genesis of the mess we are in now so very eloquently.

Thomas Paine inspired the population of both America and France during their respective revolutions. A brilliant writer, he coined some of the most enduring political phrases ever.
