Answer: 1693

Harvard (New College) was founded in 1636, Yale (Collegiate School) in 1701, University of Pennsylvania (Academy of Philadelphia) in 1740, and Princeton (College of New Jersey) in 1746.
2. On December 5, 1776, this oldest college fraternity was founded at William and Mary. It has since developed into one of the most prestigious coed honor societies in the country.

Answer: Phi Beta Kappa

Alpha Phi Omega is a coed service fraternity. The Cum Laude Society is similar to Phi Beta Kappa but is at the secondary school level. Phi Sigma Pi is another prestigious coed honor society founded at the University of Central Missouri in 1916.
3. Which United States President is not an alumnus of William and Mary?

Answer: James Madison

As a native Virginian, James Madison would have attended William and Mary if not for his frail health. He opted for a less swampy climate at the College of New Jersey (Princeton University).
4. This structure is the oldest academic building in continuous use in the United States.

Answer: Wren Building

The Wren Building was designed by famed British architect Sir Christopher Wren. It opened for use in 1700. The inside of the building has burned three times (1705, 1859, and 1862) and was restored in the 1920s by John D. Rockefeller. Massachusetts Hall is the second oldest academic building in the country, located at Harvard. Tyler Hall is home to the English Department at W&M.

The Jefferson Building does not exist.

Answer: The Tribe

Although the school's nickname is the Tribe, it does not have a mascot.

Answer: Williamsburg, Virginia

Williamsburg was the capital of Virginia from 1699-1780. Jamestown was the site of the first permanent English Colony in America (1607). Yorktown was the site of Lord Cornwallis' surrender to George Washington that all but ended the Revolutionary War (1781). Richmond is the present day capital of Virginia (1781-present).
7. Which of these men did not graduate from William and Mary?

Answer: Comedian Steven Colbert

Steven Colbert graduated from Northwestern University after transferring from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.
8. Which one of these people has not been Chancellor of the College?

Answer: Tony Blair

The Chancellor is a mostly honorary position, only participating in special ceremonies such as graduation. Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was named Chancellor in 2005. Former British Prime Minister Thatcher was the Chancellor from 1993-2000. Washington was Chancellor from 1788 to 1799. He had also received his surveyor's license from the College earlier in his life.
9. This Super Bowl winning coach played his college ball at William and Mary.

Answer: Mike Tomlin

Tomlin, who led the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Super Bowl title in February 2009, played wide receiver/tight end at William and Mary in the early 1990s. Cowher, former coach of the Steelers, played linebacker at NC State, graduating in 1979. Gruden, former coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was a backup quarterback at the University of Dayton in the early to mid 1980s. Tony Dungy, former coach of the Indianapolis Colts, played quarterback at the University of Minnesota from 1973-76.
