Andrew Jackson was a boarder at Mrs. Donelson's home. Rachel met Andrew when she and her first husband came home to visit. Andrew was taken with Rachel at first sight.

Rachel was married to Lewis Robards when she met Andrew. The marriage was abusive. Rachel left Lewis for Andrew. Lewis and Rachel's divorce was finalized on September 27, 1773. She and Andrew were married officially on January 28, 1774.

Rachel could not conceive when she was married to Lewis. After learning that Lewis and his new wife had several children, Rachel realized she had the problem. He died of Tuberculosis when he was a teenager.

Unfortunately, the Tennessee General Assembly put in Andrew Jackson's bid for Presidency on October 6, 1825 and it was accepted. Andrew was now a candidate for President of the United States.

Rachel had suffered from several ailments all her life, including congestive heart failure and female problems. She blamed her female problems on the reason why she never became pregnant. On December 22, 1828, Rachel collapsed in her housekeepers arms. The diagnosis was a heart attack. She was dead before Andrew could get a doctor to her.
9. On what holiday did Andrew Jackson bury his wife, Rachel?

Answer: Christmas Eve

Andrew buried Rachel in the gardens at the Hermitage. After her burial, he boarded a train to take him to his inauguration for President of the United States. Rachel's tombstone was laid in 1831.

Answer: No

Andrew never married. After his inauguration he kept himself inside the White House for months while he grieved. He died on June 8, 1845 with a simple tombstone that held his name and dates of birth and death.
