Irritating? You bet! 'Art World Figures' today. I find it funny that the system cannot remember my duel score but won't forget that I had just played the quiz! Frustrating... Grrrr Reply #101. Apr 05 15, 8:27 AM |

This locking up every day. Today I played Geography, when submitting it I got a page that said there was an error in submission and to hit the back key....which took me back to the beginning of the quiz. So I played again for half points and (guess what) I got the same error message again. Have not figured out how to do the mulligan...there is no place to click. It still shows that the Geograph quiz has not been played, but why bother. I am using a computer, not my iPhone. Slow what I tried to submit the problem under "contact us" that did not work either. Since this game has come up, I have had about 6-8 games lock up, this is the first that messed up at the end. Usually it locks on loading or freezes in the middle. Please fix this game! Reply #102. The game has been fixed so try again. This is still a very new game and it's not surprising that there are occasional errors - which Terry will investigate and fix as soon as he can but the place to report/read about errors like this is in the Feedback section of the Forums, not here in the Chatboards. Thanks for letting me know. The geography game has been fixed and I was able to play again. Reply #104. Apr 05 15, 8:58 AM |

SOMETHING is screwed up today. I got a reload penalty on a game that I didn't reload either accidentally or on purpose. It's not the end of the world but it's frustrating. This day in the Duel is a bust for me. Reply #105. Apr 05 15, 10:34 AM |

Kim, all the duels were doing that. Terry fixed it, try again. The mulligans for the duels are no more. If the screen freezes on Loading or on the intro screen & you haven't seen any questions, hit the back button to the Duels page & try it again. We get one try again if it is a freeze at the beginning. As flopsy wrote, Terry reads the Feedback section of the Forums for problems. Reply #106. Apr 05 15, 2:20 PM |

I've never had the lock-up problem that others are mentioning. The only problem I seem to have is that I am constantly getting paired with people far above my level or a couple rungs above me in the Dual Ladder, which the game states is possible but should not be a regular occurrence. Today, for example, everyone I faced is in the top 1,000 players on this site. I'd like to think I'm good, but I've been here for years and I'm not on that kind of level. I got pipped by one point today on my best score and it just irked me. Reply #107. Apr 05 15, 6:27 PM |

Stonecreek, for Duels we are paired with people that have the same win/loss ratio plus some random element that only Terry knows. If one of the top players ont he site has a couple of bad days dueling, then they matched up with a lower level players that had some good days dueling. Reply #108. Apr 05 15, 6:42 PM |

That part I understand, but I thought you were supposed to be paired with people at your level of the ladder. I've only been playing this game three days; three of the folks I faced today are levels above me in the game (so, at a minimum, 10+ wins ahead of me). It's like the Global Challenge, where your score is shown with those of the same level as you in the game. I just feel there's a better than average probability that people will end up dropping this game due to being unexpectedly crushed when at a low level. In this way its counter to the rest of the FT games, which do pretty well at keeping skill levels clustered to minimize frustration. This game's the first one in a while to get me frustrated. No, the steps someone else in the game has reached doesn't factor into the game. If it did, you would only be paired against someone who started the game 2-5 days ago. How fast someone progresses also depends on whether or not they are a gold member. A person could be a gold member and be a low to mid-level player, winning maybe 6-7 topics a day, in this game but be ahead of someone who is non gold and wins the maximum allowable five games a day. One thing I like about this game is winning with a lousy score in a topic I know nothing about. It's the only game on the site that lets a player win while getting maybe three answers correct. I was under the impression the primary driver for pairing would be your perfomance within the game itself, somewhat like Knockout tournament sourting Like Mira says, there is some randomness so it is not a straight cast and every now and then you will find yourself "out of your league" (either high or low) but in general you should end up seeing people with a similar winning percentage out of past duels (so not level on FT or level within The Duel game itself with the disparity in games played between Gold Members and us cheapskates ;)...I think winning percentage is wise to use instead of straight wins) so as long as you aren't constantly running the gauntlet, take it as a compliment if you saw a bunch of high rollers for a day or two since it means you have done well. I expect I will pay for my 5 wins out of 5 today when I play tomorrow Reply #111. Apr 05 15, 8:35 PM |

Great game! I particularly like how each step is named after a different animal. I wonder who'll be the first player to reach Step 31 and be awarded the 'Path of the Dinosaurs' badge. Reply #112. Apr 05 15, 8:53 PM |

First time plunging into Duel conversation, but gleaning much from your discussion so far. Player on my team mentioned that she likes the Duel, but that our opponents may get a different set of questions in a given category. Wondering if she got that right? Is there a pool of questions that we get randomly, or are they the same for the two players who get matched up? Wondering if that may affect the waiting for an opponent factor? Reply #113. I think, over in the 14 page thread devoted to this topic, along with a couple of pages in the New Badge thread, Terry said our opponents get questions that are of the same difficulty level but not the same questions. Since we don't get matched up until someone with the same almost sort of close to win ratio that we have plays, I don't see how getting the same exact questions would be possible. Reply #114. Daver852: I wish there was a badge for winning all your duels on a given day Oh, Daver! Just the THOUGHT of doing that would set me up for the week! I wouldn't need a badge! 8^) Reply #115. Apr 06 15, 12:44 AM |

I agree with Daver. I would have loved to have received some recognition (badgelet) for winning all 15. I had a good week every day last week but I feel like I'm paying the price for that now. Reply #116. Apr 06 15, 12:50 AM |

I have been very lucky so far. I am dreading the day when I click on the game and see the following topics: "Harry Potter," Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Cricket," "Best of Australian TV," "WWF - The Early Years," "Les Miserables," "Rent," "Eurovision," and "Obscure Swedish Goth Bands." I have no idea how the computer matches you with an opponent; I haven't had many duels with people near me in the standings. Reply #118. Apr 06 15, 8:34 AM |

LOL Dave Well, in my case substitute Hip Hop & Rap or 2000s Music for Harry Potter, but otherwise I'm with you completely. I actually had Buffy recently. It wasn't pretty. Reply #119. Apr 06 15, 11:34 AM |

A lot of it really is the luck of the draw. I'd advise no one to get discouraged at this stage; your best categories could all show up tomorrow. Reply #120. Apr 06 15, 12:03 PM |
