One of my team members (urbankheki) pointed out that the duels are akin to certain sumo wrestling tournaments where in 15 matches you aim to win more than you lose. It is similar, of course, in many sports such as in the Ryder Cup in golf or the big snooker championships or tennis, etc etc. You are in the Wimbledon final facing Nadal. You lose two sets --- but as long as you win the other three you are going to be the Grand Slam champion! If you play 15 duels but lose 7 of them: guess what? you won 8 -- so it is a positive result over all! I think that is the way to look at this game without feeling downhearted by defeats. I got a weekly email saying I'd played 25 games and won 12. I viewed this score a very valiant loss, a close match. Had I won 13 I would have won the week, right? Mira, sorry to ask but I am confused about the penalties now: have you experienced the new system? If we freeze on the first question or mid-game, then, is that curtains? A penalty? No waiver anymore? Is this explained on the forums? Thanks. And I guess that means my earlier description and screenshot is incorrect? (If so, I would like to know so it can be deleted). Thanks! Chavs, this is what happened to me: A freeze on the third question & a reload brought up a new game with the penalty. (I would have lost with a double score.) A freeze before the intro screen, where it says Loading but never does, and a reload brought up a game without the penalty. I haven't seen your screen shots. Amazing thing about this game is that you don't NEED to know much about any subject - just need to have your opponent know less! Lol Quite often I fail on subjects I like to think that I know something about, as "speed" is not one of my stronger points. At the moment I am fuming. I did one quiz - entertainment - and got them all correct but when I clicked on for the result I got a message saying page not available. When I got back to it - someone else with a much lower score had been awarded it.....still puzzled over that one. I guess it was a site glitch and I am the one that gets it in the neck. Reply #132. Mommakat -- you mean you won by points, but the game was awarded to your opponent (with a lower score)? Or do you mean you got a penalty? You can try querying it with Terry on the main forum if you think it is a bug? MiraJane, thank you. I noticed that last night. I saw in the results that someone graduated to that level, but it only showed daBomb winning that badge. I wondered if it was like the "10 in a day" badge where you had to go pick it up, but it seems more than one person hasn't been awarded it yet so I knew that wasn't the case. Reply #140.
