Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the captain of the boat, Panache?

Answer: Red Wegener

His name is mentioned in the first line of Chapter 1. He was the one in charge of the capture of the Colombians who slaughtered the family aboard "Empire Builder".
2. Where was the boat captain from?

Answer: Kansas

The book said that he was from a Kansas wheat farm. It also says that it is where many Coast Guard captains come from.
3. What was the name of the Chief Boatswain's Mate?

Answer: Bob Riley

Riley was the crew member who beat the living tar out of the cocky Colombian when he spit on the captain.
4. What was the name of the Chief Quartermaster?

Answer: Oreza

Considering the fact that Oreza is a flat character and not a round one, there is not much to say about him, except that he was the Chief Quartermaster.
5. What is the name of the boat that Panache's crew overtakes?

Answer: Empire Builder

It is pretty obvious that this would be the correct answer, but one might get confused, because the possibilities, including the correct one, are two words.
6. What was the captured boat transporting to the U.S.?

Answer: drugs

What would a captured boat be carrying that made it get captured? And on top of that, this book is about America's war against the drug industry.
7. What did the captain stage to frighten the second prisoner?

Answer: a hanging

Remember, they strapped a vest with a loop on the back to the cocky prisoner, and put a black hood over his head, which had a rag soaked in ether on the inside to knock him out. They took a rope with a hook on the end and hooked it to the loop on the vest. They dropped the rope, and since he was knocked out, it looked like a real hanging.
8. What was the name on the CIA officer's passport?

Answer: J.T. Williams

If you can remember, when he handed his passport to the gatekeeper, it said "J.T. Williams".
9. What was the name that the officer lived under (not his real name)?

Answer: Clark

He is referred to as Clark throughout the book, except for when he boards airliners.
10. What is the name of the staff sergeant assigned to Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion of the 17th Regiment?

Answer: Domingo Chavez

His name is mentioned whenever the battle in the jungle is referred to.
11. What was the staff sergeant's nickname?

Answer: Ding

All of the nicknames would be suitable, because he was the best spec ops guy there is, but they called him Ding.
12. What was the motto mentioned in the second chapter?

Answer: "Ninja! We Own The Night!"

Although it was not mentioned often in the book, it was mentioned in a couple of chapters.
13. Where was the staff sergeant supposed to be reassigned to?

Answer: Fort Benning

Remember, that is where Lieutenant Jackson resided.
14. What did Lieutenant Jackson notice about the passengers of the helicopter?

Answer: They were all Hispanic

If you can remember, all of the men that went into the jungle were Hispanic, because they were in a Spanish-speaking country.
15. What is the first name mentioned in the third chapter?

Answer: Wegener

Why would it be anything else? The previous chapter discusses Red Wegener, so of course Chapter 3 is going to discuss the punishment he gives the Colombians for their actions.
