Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many other boys were in Ender's Launchy group?

Answer: 19

There can only be 20 boys per launchy group, so hey, process of elimination! 20-1=19!
2. How many dress pieces made up Ender's launch uniform? (this is before he got into the battle school and/or on the shuttle flight)

Answer: 1 piece

Right before launch, Ender comments about how they dressed him in a uniform; all one piece. He didn't like how it felt. He said he wasn't used to not wearing a belt and he felt naked in front of all the cameras.
3. "Graff looked at them all with contempt. 'Scumbrains, that's what we've got in this launch. Pinheaded little morons. Only one of you had the brains to realize that in null gravity directions are what you conceive them to be. Do you understand that, ______?' The boy nodded." (Graff was talking to the boy named Bernard)

Answer: False

Graff is talking to a boy named Shafts. Unfortunatly, we never hear about Shafts again. I wonder how he made it in Battle School...
4. What was Bernard's injury on the air-shuttle?

Answer: his left arm was broken

Ender gave Bernard his injury on the launch flight. Graff was raising Ender to be the best out of all the boys and obviously, Bernard didn't like it and he began to hit Ender from behind. Ender grabbed him by the arm and threw him, not knowing that Bernard was not strapped into his seat and he (Bernard) went flying across the ship into the wall. Go Ender! Right on!
5. Ender told Graff that he thought he was his friend because Graff was honest with him.

Answer: True

For this question, I will take a direct quote: ' "Was it a good flight, Ender?" Graff asked cheerfully. "I thought you were my friend." Despite himself, Ender's voice trembled. Graff looked puzzled. "Whatever gave you that idea, Ender?" "Because you---" Because you spoke nicely to me, and honestly. "You didn't lie."
6. Ender noticed the Manitcore Army's team light was flashing on the score board while eating. Which other army was battling during Ender's first meal in Battle School?

Answer: Asp

During dinner, Ender sat alone. At this time, he surveyed his surroundings and noticed the scoreboard at the far end of the room. He noted that they were standings for teams (aka armies) and that two teams (aka armies) didn't have a score. Their names (Manticore and Asp) were both flashing and Ender came to the conclusion that they were in the middle of a battle. Pretty smart, no?
7. What color were the uniforms for Ender's launchy group?

Answer: blue

During dinner, Ender noticed where the other launchies in his group were sitting. He noted to himself the colors of the other armies' clothing and commented on how his group only had plain blue suits.
8. Ender asked Mick if he could eat his pudding.

Answer: False

Actually, it was the other way around. Mick approached Ender and told him that he was nothing. Mick then told Ender that if he wanted to get anywhere, he'd have to grow strong, so Mick took Ender's pudding and gave him a roll. Ender didn't like Mick very much...
9. How far did Ender double his numbers until he began to get unsure of his math?

Answer: 67108864

Ender made it all the way to 67108864 until he began to wonder if he had skipped a few numbers. Then he sighed and was relieved to find that his pain was gone. The tears would not come. This technique helped Ender to calm his anger or sadness...quite a good tip for everyday life, no?
10. Bernard wasn't taught "Standard" until he was 4 years of age.

Answer: True

The book says that Bernard really wasn't taught "Standard" until he was 4 so that the French language influences would already be set into his speech.
11. What did Bernard call Ender?

Answer: a "maladroit"

Bernard called Ender a Maladroit which in normal talk means "clumsy", I think. That is, if my stem study is correct! Ha Ha!
12. In the past, one boy at Battle School committed suicide. This boy's name was Pinual.

Answer: True

At the beginning of chapter six, Colonel Graff is talking to an unknown person. They speak of the boy who committed suicide, a.k.a. Pinual. Graff's unknown companion is worried that Ender will commit suicide because he's stuck at the "Giant's Drink" in the computer fantasy game.
13. What was Ender's first null-G move? (not counting floating or flexing)

Answer: a flip feet-first over his head

When Ender first gets into the null-G battle room, he realizes that it's going to take a while to get used to the atmosphere difference. He graps a hold of the wall-rings and pushes with his legs. Well, easily enough said, the centrifugal force works and he goes feet first over his head into the wall thus making him lose his grip which sends him flying across the room! Ha Ha! Can't you just picture it?
14. Ender lost the null-G competition race against Shen in the Battle Room.

Answer: False

Yes...it's true that Ender lost the race, but he lost it to Alai, not Shen. Alai ends up being Ender's closest friend in the Launchy group even though he was originally part of Bernard's gang.
15. In the fantasy game, your character must climb up a hill with a landslide in order to get to the Giant. Ender compared that hill to what edible substance?

Answer: bread

I'll take a quote for this: "And as always, the landslides finally stopped being jumbles of rock. The face of the hill broke open and instead of shale it was white bread, puffy, rising like dough as the crust broke away and fell. It was soft and spongy; his figure moved more slowly."
