26. Which Australian swimmer, well known for winning a gold medal for the same event at three consecutive Olympic Games, started her Olympic career with a silver medal in 400 metres freestyle event at the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne.

Answer:
Dawn Fraser
Dawn Fraser was a controversial character who was as well known for her touch of larrikinism as she was for her prowess in the pool. One of the highlights of her career was winning the gold medal for the women's 100 metre freestyle event at the Olympics in 1956, 1960 and 1964. Despite this glittering array she proved she was fallible by being relegated to second spot in her first event, the 400 metres freestyle. Dawn's Olympic career ended after the Tokyo games in 1964 with a trophy cabinet that boasted four Olympic golds (the fourth was in the 4 x 100 metres freestyle relay) and four silver medals, the other three were all relay medals.
