Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Abraham and his wife Sarah had wanted a child for many years, but were unable to have one. What had God promised their descendants would be like?

Answer: They would be more than Abraham could count.

Abram was ninety-nine years old when the Lord appeared to him again and said, "I am God All-Powerful. If you obey me and always do right, I will keep my promise to you and give you more descendants than can be counted. I promise that you will be the father of many nations. That's why I now change your name from Abram to Abraham.

In the future some of your children will even be kings. I will always keep the promise I have made to you and your descendants, because I am your God and their God. I will give you and them the land in which you are now a foreigner. I will give the whole land of Canaan to your family forever, and I will be their God."(Genesis 17:1-8)
2. God visited Abraham and his wife and told them that Sarah would have a child. Why did Abraham and Sarah laugh?

Answer: They were really old and thought it wasn't possible.

Abraham was almost 100 years old when God visited him and told him Sarah would have a baby. Sarah also laughed when she overheard the news because she was 90 years old. God asked them why they were laughing. God said, "Is anything to difficult for me?" (Genesis 17, 18:1-15)
3. When the child was born, Abraham and Sarah named him Isaac. This was the name God had given them. What does it mean?

Answer: Laughter

God wanted Abraham and Sarah to name their son "Isaac" (laughter) because they both laughed and thought it was impossible. However if you can picture a 100 year old man and a 90 year old woman having a baby, you might laugh too. :) It was a miracle! Isaac's mother said, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." (Genesis 21:6)
4. Abraham loved Isaac with all of his heart. One day, God asked Abraham to take Isaac and sacrifice him on top of a mountain. Why did he ask Abraham to sacrifice his son?

Answer: God wanted to test Abraham's faith and see how much he loved God.

Abraham had waited for God to give him a son for many years. Isaac was a miracle! Abraham loved Isaac and taught him all the things God had taught him. However one day, God wanted to see if Abraham loved Isaac more than Him. He decided to test Abraham's faith. God told Abraham, "Take your son, your only son, whom you love - Isaac - and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you". Abraham, heart broken, made plans to do what God asked. (Genesis 22:2)
5. Abraham took his son Isaac and his two servants up to the mountain where God told him to make the sacrifice. Isaac noticed something was odd. There was no animal with them for sacrifice. What did Abraham tell Isaac?

Answer: "God will provide the sacrifice."

As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, "Father?"
"Yes, my son?" Abraham replied.
"The fire and wood are here," Isaac said, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"
Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son."
They continued up the mountain together. (Genesis 22:6-8)
6. Abraham decided to go make the sacrifice alone with Isaac. When they got to the top of the mountain, what did Abraham do to Isaac?

Answer: He tied him up and placed him on the altar.

Isaac helped his father build the altar. However when they were finished, Isaac got a bad surprise! His father tied him up and placed him on the wood of the altar. The next thing Isaac saw was his father reaching for a knife to kill him! (Genesis 22:9-10)
7. The sacrifice was ready and Abraham reached up high with his knife to kill the sacrifice, his only son. Who came and told Abraham to stop because they saw that he obeyed God?

Answer: God

Abraham raised his knife to kill Isaac and almost did, when he heard a voice from heaven that said, "STOP!" "Do not lay a hand on the boy," God said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."

Abraham put down the knife. He and his son were both relieved.
8. Abraham put the knife down and looked up. What did he see in the bushes that he offered up as a sacrifice instead?

Answer: a ram

Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught with his horns in the bushes. He ran over to the ram, untangled it, and killed it in the place of his son. Abraham rejoiced when he told Isaac, "See, I told you God would provide the sacrifice!" Together they both gave thanks to God! (Genesis 22:13-14)
9. Because Abraham obeyed God and was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac, what did God tell him his family would be like?

Answer: stars of the sky and the sands of the sea

God told said, "By Myself I promise, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your children as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your children will be victorious over their enemies.

In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."(Genesis 22:16-18)
10. God kept his promise to Abraham and he became the father of many nations and kings. Which great nation did his son Isaac become the father of?

Abraham had Isaac, Isaac had Jacob, and Jacob was the father of the twelve men that became the tribes of Israel! Many of Abraham's descendants were kings, and one of them was Jesus Christ! (Matthew 1)
