Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were taken from their homeland as young men. King Nebuchadnezzar saw that they were very smart and talented. What job did the king give them in Babylon?

Answer: They were wise men.

Although it was very hard being taken away from their country and homes, God had his hand on all three young men. The king trained Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego as young men and gave them very important jobs in his kingdom. He gave them the best education and made them part of his wise men.

They were in charge of certain events and gave advice to the king on important decisions. (Daniel 1:6)
2. King Nebuchadnezzar built a great statue that was nine feet tall and nine feet wide. What was the statue made out of?

Answer: gold

The king made a large statue of gold and placed it out in the open for all the people to see. He called his treasurers, wise men, governors, princes, judges, and all of his other leaders to come see it. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were among the leaders that came to the king's big celebration. (Daniel 3:1-3)
3. King Nebuchadnezzar told all the people that they must worship the statue at a certain time. What was the sign that they would be given to fall down and worship the statue?

Answer: music would play

The herald loudly proclaimed, "Nations and peoples of every language, this is what you are commanded to do: As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up." The people were also told that if they did not bow down to the music it would be immediate death. (Daniel 3:4-5)
4. Although everyone had been told that they would be killed if they did not worship the statue, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not bow down. Who told the king that they would not worship the idol or any of the Babylonian gods?

Answer: the king's astrologers

The astrologers immediately went to the king when they saw that the three Hebrew men were not worshiping the statue. They told the king, "Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego pay no attention to you, Your Majesty. They neither serve your gods nor worship the image of gold you have set up." The king was furious! He sent for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego at once. (Daniel 3:8-13)
5. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had been very good servants of Nebuchadnezzar. The king was angry but decided to give them another chance to worship the idol. What did they say to the king when he offered?

Answer: "God will deliver us and even if He doesn't, we will not worship your idol or any other gods."

The king asked the three men, "Is it true, that you do not serve my gods or my idol? If you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?"

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego made the decision they would serve the true God no matter what. They knew even if the king offered another chance, they would still not bow down to the idol. So they told the king, "Go ahead and throw us into the furnace. Our God will deliver us. However if he doesn't, we will still not bow down to your idol or any other god." (Daniel 3:13-16)
6. King Nebuchadnezzar got so mad at Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego's response! He was furious! What did he tell the guards to do in addition to throwing them into a fiery furnace?

Answer: "Make it seven times hotter than normal."

The king was so mad, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not have time to change clothes or say goodbye to their friends. They grabbed their coats and hats and were tied up by the strongest men in the king's army. The king told his soldiers, "Make the fire seven times hotter than normal and throw them in!"(Daniel 3:19-22)
7. The fire was so hot that it killed the guards who threw Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego into the fiery furnace.

Answer: True

The king's command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who threw Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego into the furnace. However Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not burn up. (Daniel 3:22-23)
8. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego should have been burned alive but they were not. Instead, King Nebuchadnezzar saw them walking with a fourth man in the fire! What did the king say the fourth man looked like?

Answer: the son of God

The king was so in shock to see four men in the fire he asked one of his servants, "Didn't we throw three into the fire?". The servant said,
"Yes, Your Majesty." The king said, "I see four men in the fire and the fourth man looks like the son of God!". The king called for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to come out of the fire immediately.
9. What was the unusual thing that King Nebuchadnezzar noticed when Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire?

Answer: Their clothes were not burned and did not smell like smoke.

When Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out everyone gathered around them to see what had happened! Their clothes were not burned, their hair was not burned, and there was not even a smell of smoke on their clothes. (Daniel 3:27)
10. King Nebuchadnezzar respected Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego so much for their actions that he promoted them and praised their God instead of his idol.

Answer: True

The king told all the people in his kingdom, "Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in Him and didn't obey the king's command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.

Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who says anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way." Afterwards the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to be great leaders in his kingdom.(Daniel 3:30)
