Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which man of God had died, leaving Joshua in charge of all the Israelites?

Answer: Moses

Joshua had helped Moses lead the Israelites for many years. When Moses' life was ending, he blessed Joshua and all the people before he died. After Moses was dead, God chose Joshua to be the next leader to lead the Israelites into the promised land.
2. God told Joshua to be strong and have courage. What did God promise would make Joshua successful if he kept it?

Answer: the law of God

Moses had not been allowed to go into the promised land because he had disobeyed God. God told Joshua to keep the commandments that had been given to Moses and it would make him successful. He told Joshua, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." (Joshua 1:8, NKJV Bible) God wanted Joshua to not only be a good soldier, but a righteous example for the people he was leading as well.
3. Joshua sent two spies to scout out the promised land before battle. Which lady protected the spies in her house?

Answer: Rahab

Spies that are caught are often put to death. Rahab brought the two spies from Joshua into her house and protected them from harm when soldiers were looking for them. Rahab's house was in the wall of the city and after the soldiers were gone, she let the spies escape by climbing out a window to safety.

She asked the spies to save her life as well when God gave the Israelites the victory. The spies told her if she left the red rope in her window that she had used to get them to safety, her life would be spared.
4. To get to the promised land, Joshua and his people had to cross the Jordan river. What did Joshua do when God parted the waters?

Answer: He built a memorial.

When Joshua had the priests stand in the river, God parted the waters for Joshua and the people to get across, like he had for Moses and the Red Sea. Joshua wanted the people to remember this forever and had each family tribe of Israel pick out rocks.

He built a memorial out of them to remind them what God had done. Joshua told them if their children asked them what the rocks were for, they were to tell them God had parted the waters for His people to go to the promised land.
5. Before the battle, Joshua saw a man standing with a sword in his hand. Who did the man say he was?

Answer: the captain of the hosts of the Lord

The man was actually an angel. Joshua asked him if he was a friend or enemy. When he found out that the man was an angel, he fell down and worshipped. The angel told him to take off his shoes for the ground he stood on was holy. Joshua obeyed and God told him the plan for battle.
6. God told Joshua to march around the walls of Jericho once a day for six days. What did he tell the priests to carry while they marched?

Answer: the ark of the covenant

God had told Joshua to put the priests at the front of the marching with the ark of the covenant. The ark of the covenant represented God's presence and power. God wanted the people to know He was leading them.
7. The priests blew trumpets as God's people marched. How many trumpets did God tell the priests to blow?

Answer: 7

God told the priests to carrry seven trumpets made of rams' horns. Each day He instructed the priests to march in front of the people and blow them. Joshua told the rest of the people to be very quiet until he commanded them to do the opposite.
8. Joshua trusted God's battle plans. What had Joshua told the people would happen to those who disobeyed God's commands?

Answer: They would be killed.

The first time God had brought the Israelites to the promised land, they had no faith God would give them the victory. God had sent them back into the wilderness for many years. Joshua knew it was important to obey God even if He had an unusual plan. Joshua told the people anyone who did not obey God or his command would die.
9. Joshua had told the people not to make any noise until he said so. What happened on the seventh day when Joshua told them to shout?

Answer: the walls fell down

Joshua told the Israelites to shout because God had given them the city. When they did God caused the walls to fall down flat. The Israelites rushed in and took the city. Joshua told the spies to go and rescue the woman who had helped them. They saved her entire family as they had promised.
10. The Israelites got the victory as God had promised! What did they do with all the gold and treasures of Jericho?

Answer: They gave them to God.

Joshua gave all the treasures of the city to God and commanded the people not to take anything for themselves. They put the treasures in the house of God and then burned the city with fire. Joshua said any man who rebuilt Jericho would be cursed.
